I had great interactions with Mark.  I'm sad that he's gone, his efforts and generosity where unparalleled.

I would really like to write an article about his work. Does anyone have contact info about family, etc.?

He did a lot for Feijoa improvement.

I need seeds, pretty desperately.  I was stratifying them in moist peat and someone threw them out or something.  I ordered another 500 from treeseeds.com in September and they never arrived, and even after I contacted them they still are not here.

I graft che onto them and would love to have some for spring 2021.  Its a longshot at this point, but maybe a heated mat and growing in controlled enviornment....

Thanks Everyone,

Thanks for your thoughts.  I guess I have to do the experiment.  Results next summer!

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Grafting Pawpaw and Pond Apple
« on: September 20, 2020, 08:57:08 AM »
Has anyone attempted to test graft compatibility within the Annonaceae?  I have a few dozen pond apple yearlings that I won't use for anything.  I'm curious if there is any precedent of successful grafts with A. triloba.  Looking for interesting graft-inducible weirdnesses (dwarfing, precocious flowering, etc).

I have received about 10 trees from them, avocado and loquat.  They generally arrive quickly and in good shape.  However, I did receive an avocado in my last order that arrived looking a little rough. The leaves were stressed, the plant generally not vigorous.  I replanted in my plant ICU and it just continued to decline, dropping the leaves it had.  I contacted Top Tropicals by email and I think the longest reply I got was six words. I sent pictures, hoped for advice. No dice.

The sad part is that I could likely save this plant without them, but would have appreciated their guidance and advice. I work with dozens of different tree species. Customer service could have been much better.  The trees are hardly free, so I would be reluctant to order from them going forward.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Treatment for HLB

Right now there is no demonstrated treatment for HLB.  There is a lot of snake oil out there.  The only success is in prevention from genetic tolerance in some rootstock and scion varieties, and some GE trees show some promise to live with the infection. There is no cure.

Temperate Fruit Buy, Sell, & Trade / Warren Pear Trees for Sale
« on: February 06, 2020, 03:13:29 PM »
My wife runs a small nursery and we ordered the wrong trees on accident from Dave Wilson Nurseries with our normal order.  We have 10 Warren Pears, 3/4" caliper, 5-7 feet all, nice architecture, all dormant, bare-root, and on OHxF333 rootstocks.

These are 600 chill hour trees. More details here-  https://www.davewilson.com/product-information/product/warren-pear

We would like to just break even on these and are selling them for $20 each. We potentially can ship them, we have appropriate boxes, and can inquire on cost.  We are located in Archer, FL - about 15 miles SW of Gainesville,

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Looking for Marumi Kumquat
« on: February 06, 2020, 02:42:17 PM »
Hello Everybody,

I had the pleasure of tasting a marumi kumquat and have not been able to source a tree.

Does anyone out there know of a source, or does anyone have some clean budwood they'd send/sell?  I have rootstocks ready to go.
