Help finding the variety of my Durian?
« on: January 14, 2021, 01:36:03 AM »
A couple months ago i got i nice sized durian, which is planted about 4 feet from a pond i have. However over here people very rarely have named variety fruit trees so it was sold to me just as durian. I figured out someone here might know which variety it might be.

In the absence of any information regarding the mother tree or even the fruit and just a picture of a seedling even the most gifted Durio taxonomy and horticultural specialists are likely to come up empty on this. Your best shot is to try and get further info or employ the services of someone with Psychic abilities.

I’ve seen experts identify them just based on the leaves shape. Theres hundred of diggerent durian leaf shapes. No meed for super powers

I have seen Thai experts using their leaf keys and being baffled with full grown trees. Low developed rough leaf keys/guides that only apply to a few and are used to show things like the Pomoho Monthong is not really a Monthong. Seedlings are especially difficult but you can pin it down Durio species ok and rule out many zibethinus varieties.

William, I sent you a pm basically restating what Mike said. It’s very difficult to verify what kind of durian you have. I think it’s even somewhat difficult to narrow down the species until you have the inflorescence or a picture of the fruit. The trees all look quite similar so as he said. This is very little to go on since durian trees have all kinds of phenotypes
