Awesome feedback gang. Thanks! I don't think it is the above mentioned scale but it does look close. I'll search some scale insect images. Cheers

So I have a two or three year old sugar apple and it noticed these shells on it the other day. I can't figure out what they are and I assume they are bad for the plant but I don't know the best way to eliminate them.

Any help or advise or experience is much appreciated

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dragonfruit question- best tasting variety
« on: January 05, 2013, 07:41:23 PM »
I know there are dozens of dragon fruit threads with a lot of great info but I couldn't find a thread just about flavor preference.

So. If quantity of fruit, self compatibility and heartiness are not a factor, what is your favorite variety?

I was in Fairchild this weekend an saw an amazing sight.

A 60-70 Spanish oak tree completely covered by dragon fruit!!! It was unbelieveable. I wish I had a camera.

It is actually outside the gardens on old cutler. On the east side near the trellises.

Pretty neat

Is there a solid list of the varieties of lychees, their specific cold needs and tolerance and taste notes?

I have a no name tree in my yard but want to add another. Thing is, I want one that will require less cold to fruit as my current tree has not bloomed in years inspite of being quite a healthy specimen

Thanks

I just found out that my dragon is a Halley's Comet and not a p graffiti as I was first told. Anyone have any opinions or tips about Halley's Comet? Is it self compatible? Prolific fruiter? Tasty?

Thanks

This place is great! I was so excited to stumble upon it!

I agree with the sentiment that it would be a bad idea too separate the topics by fruit. It might be okay to make a few large sections like grafts and cuts/ fruiting and harvesting / seeding and germinating / pollenating

It seems like it might just make it a little more organized.

Thanks a lot for all who make it possible and the members who really are the most important part of any forum. Good peeps

How do your mulberries taste like? I've never tasted one and from what I gather on the internet they really don't have much of a flavor.

They are awesome. I love em. That is a pretty good description. I have heard that there is a lot of variety in the flavor of each type

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit pics!!!

We all like pics. We need more pics. Here is a place to post fruit porn. Blooms, buds, greenies,  ripe, even already harvested, lets see some fruit

Here is a brown turkey fig I picked yesterday, my mulberries and some brand new blooms on my Sri starfruit.

Resurrecting this thread rather than post a new one. My mulberry was a graft and it was about four feet tall when I got it. It promptly grew another foot and then started branching out.
Sandy broke my support stick and now the tree leans BAD. Like bent 90. It can't support itself. Should I just stake and tie it up? Cut it to nothing but a twelve inch stump so it will bush from a short base? Leave it be so it gets strong??

Thanks

I love the planter. What was your supply list?

I see a 4x4
A section of lattice
Two pieces of rebar
Painted with what?
How big is your container?

Thanks for the great idea

I made this 5 weeks ago. It was very simple to construct if anyone is interested in the supply list and instructions. I am growing Physical Grafitti and Haley's Comet. I also have American Beauty rooting in a separate pot. I have had a huge growth spurt in the last week. I am looking forward to fruit!

Those fruit look a little under ripe for the picking. Is it different based on the variety?

Thanks for all the info. Hak ip I think is what I'll look for.

Guanabanus- what type of starfruit do you have?

Squirrel patrol looks legit. Good on you for rescuing. All three of my tree trimmers are rescues.

The trees are awesome too. Have you been fertilizing yay or too early? Just wondering because you have such varied species and I wasn't sure how one would handle their differing needs

Hahaha thanks mate. I was inspired.

Appriciated the brewsters tip. I have a five year old tree but it has only produced a handful of fruit total. I have just started to learn about them and I am hoping for a little col this year to see what she's got

Great forum here. Happy to have found you all
