Hi,
On an article published by the University of Florida (https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/MG330) the sugar apple variety "Lessard Thai" was rated highest in quality and recommended.

I would like to get one plant of this variety, but I fear that those being sold on the internet might be grown from seeds.  Are sugar apples true to seed?  I am under the impression that they aren't, but I am not 100% sure....

In any case, do you guys know how I can get a true-to-type plant shipped to Miami, Florida?

Thanks!

The seeds I grew from Thai variety have all produced similar tasting fruit, the main variance being size of fruits. Its a great variety with chewy flesh.

I have 7 different types of sugar apples including Thai Lessard.
I grew them all from seed and the fruit is identical to all the 7 parent trees.
I have never seen the fruit vary in any way. A red easy peal type produces
red easy peal fruit. I don't hand pollinate my sugar apple trees with other pollen.
I have a few seeds from last year and small fruit on my Thai Lessard tree now.
In a month or so I will have fresh seeds. I also have seeds from last year
from a Na Dai I grow. If you want a grafted tree you could plant the Na Dai seeds
and graft scions from the Thai Lessard which I can provide onto your Na Dai seedlings
when they are large enough. In around 6 weeks I should have fresh seeds from all 7
types I grow. I like the Thai Lessard but my favorite is the Isan Indigo red type.

Not all do...for instance, Kampong Mauve must be grafted.

The seedling Kampong Mauve can end up green if other green sugar apples pollinated the Kampong Mauve.

Did the KM produce all green fruit or green and red fruit and did it change the following years?

I have 4 types of red sugar apples and all 4 grew true from seed. Two are easy peal and
two are not and this trait also grows true. None of my trees have ever produced an unusual
colored fruit and I had hundreds the past few years. Even though I don't hand pollinate the
trees are in close proximity.

If anyone has KM seeds this year I will trade you for any of my seeds and I will grow some out
and see what I get. I could even hand pollinate with green sugar apple pollen

Mostly true yes but not big eyes but offspring usually good still and newer unstabilised types. I had a red that had much smaller green fruit also.

I have seen seedlings from Noel's Big Red be slightly different from the original.

I’ve planted a dozen Kampong Mauve seedlings which are all doing really well in SE Qld. If they don’t all grow true, will the fruit still be a decent quality? What’s the odds of the fruit being crap?

kampong mauve grow pretty true and there are selections with larger fruit, They are good quality.

Thai lassard is good alright but it may struggle if it is in a showdown with big eyes or green diamond.

How long is the typical length of time between planting seed and fruiting? Thanks

Abe I hear they fruit in only a few years from seed, that (plus mostly true to parent) is why they are so popular

Isan Indigo seedling flowered at 6 months from seed

Couple Thai Lessard seedlings flowered at 6 months also but  I think 2 years from seed is average.

There are always prodigies but 2 years is quite routine.
