My New Muntingia Tree

Got this Strawberry Tree 1 year ago, kept in a pot till 5 weeks ago when we planted it in the ground. It has grown almost 2 ft this year and it has been fruiting since March. New flowers green fruit and ripe fruit everyday now.

This tree is fast growing and prolific and the fruit is YUMMY !!
I highly recommend it !!!

Muntingia has been one of the true beasts I have planted. Beware of trying to chop it back it returns stronger than ever, with a vengeance.

Excellent tree! Love them! Jaboticaba45 nice place to live. I lived in Chattanooga. Now I live in Charlotte and Johnson City and have  a greenhouse at both places 😄

Planting it in Houston what are you planning to do in the Winter?
The tree does not like cold. And I have heard of several trees dying
in areas much warmer then I am. When they die they don't come back
from the roots?

The 1st time we grew this tree, by winter it grew too tall to fit in the garage when we had our rare freeze. We bought this tree again in July, kept it in a pot and protected it ''just in case'' - last year no freeze and we put it in ground last month. It is rare for us to have freezing weather, so we push the limits with many of our 40+ trees. If we have a hard ''winter'' nite, I will cover it after watering, and hope it survives. In the meantime I am  going to learn how to germinate, I am getting 15+fruits per day. If we have seedlings that take, we won't skip a beat !! Thanks for your opinion, and Happy Gardening !
