Don, I wasn't too impressed they were small (shallow) and dried out too quickly. Normal black forestry tubes are better or even long black poly bags you can get cheaply from ebay.

Really enjoyed hearing Roger talk, he seems like a lovely man and must have had a very interesting life. He spoke about growing jujubes and a little about his travels in various countries.

6
Really enjoyed your video Adam, it has inspired me to practice! I've tried grafting a few things and only succeeded a couple of times. Loved the finishing technique of twisting the tape. I'm always terrified that I'll cut myself and my wrapping is so clumsy.

I ordered a Ross sapote and received a black sapote. It took quite a few photos & emails but eventually the seller came around. I got my Ross in the end and also a  free Rheedia madruno as compensation!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Had my first longan!!!

The word "musky" comes to my mind with a longan. I once bought some supermarket fruit in early winter which were past their best and I could only describe them as sweet but fishy! It was not a good experience.

Sorry, I should have explained it more clearly. Just a plain pineapple, sadly. I may get a feijoa in the future though. Supposed to grow well (protected, of course) in zone 7.
Hi Henry, pineapples may not be as glamorous as some of these rare fruit but they are still fun and very worthy - and easy - to grow! I picked this a couple of days ago and my husband & I ate it last night, it was delicious. This grew from a top of a store-bought pineapple, a common variety, and still great. Good luck with the gardening.

My tree has had a great fruit set thanks to me obsessively going out every afternoon with my paintbrush and hand pollinating  ;D but I have lost a lot of fruit to what I assume is a fungal disease - anthracnose maybe?, here is the latest.

I spray sporadically with copper &/or mancozeb (probably not enough for complete effectiveness) and have still ended up with some fairly decent fruit which hopefully will ripen fairly soon I think, a lot earlier than last year (May/June):

I've been happily eating my yellow ones, they are sweet and the seeds are not obtrusive at all. The tree is quite small, it has only given me about 5 so far - some still unripe - but the yield has been amazingly better than the red one which I've had for much longer and is bigger (2 fruit! a bit disappointing & resinous - probably picked too unripe). It is hiding under its net against the fruit fly.

Don't let your puppy/young dog watch when planting a tree. They may come along later and decide to "help" and dig everything up. I lost a carambola and an acai palm this way :-(

Hi everyone, I have been a 'lurker' for a while but finally found the courage to post! I love reading all the informative discussions on this forum also Daleys and love growing my own fruit to eat. This fruit-tree obsession has been a fairly recent one for me (over the last year really) but has been fuelled by all the fantastic information available from all you gurus! I love garcinias - starting with the purple mangosteen, furthered by the achacha and am growing a variety of other things most of which are too young to fruit yet but I hope over the next couple of years to start tasting all these exotic fruit which are not readily available in the shops - abiu, white sapote, cherry of rio grande etc.

I am a busy mum of 4 boys all at school & I study graphic design & I do photo restoration so it's hard to fit it all in but I try! My husband unfortunately does not share my fruit tree obsession, only tolerates it and we do not live on acreage so space is always a consideration. I am trialling the bonsai tree bags as discussed on the Daleys website for a few of my trees, so how successful this will be remains to be seen.
