Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Panama Red passion fruit question here.
« on: November 14, 2020, 04:18:04 PM »
Here’s the size of it. The Panama red growing from the left and the federicks growing from the right.

I have a couple passion fruit plants, and I would love to grow them in the same way over a trellis. Can you give a few pointers on how you trained them? The look beautiful.
It was very simple. I started with attaching twine horizontally about a foot apart then ended up using those bamboo stakes that are about 1/4"-3/8" in diameter, you get about 6 of them at hd or lowes for a couple bucks. As they grew I helped the tentacles ( or whatever they're called lol) attach to the bamboo stakes.
It's very easy and they probably didn't need much of my help.

Thanks! I’m about to repot one of my 2 plants, and I will be trying your method.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Persimmons Trees in South Florida
« on: November 08, 2020, 08:41:13 PM »
I imagine they do quite well.
The part of Kyushuu I was in two summers ago was quite hot and humid, but persimmons did great there.

I wouldn't grow persimmon in a container.

I’m glad they’ll do well here, but I have very limited space. I was really hoping I could container grow it. Bummer.

Thanks for the info.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Persimmons Trees in South Florida

Hello, everyone.

Looking for information on growing persimmons in coastal South Florida. Where to buy? Which thrive best in our area? If they can be grown in a container.

Thanks for any help.

I love your plan for year round tangerines. As I wrote earlier, I forgot I already have a small Murcott. That’s 2 out of 3. I think the Kishu sounds perfect for me also, as i will be able to container grow it.

I meant my previous post for you and my other for achetadomestica. Excuse the confusion, please. I’m still trying to learn how to use the site.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a lot of great trees that I’ll be adding to my collection from there. Only problem is their stock is a little low. I guess that will keep me from going overboard, for now.

I’ll have to start a hunt here in Fl. at my local nurseries. One of them near me has an Australian gentleman running it. I’ll have to go out and talk to him about them.

Thanks for the info!

I forgot I picked up a little Murcott at Home Depot months ago because it was so cheap. It’s still small in a 3 gallon pot. Whoa, I need to slow down when I can’t remember what trees I have.

I’ve never even tried a finger lime before, but I think I need one. :-)

I have the centennial. I haven’t gotten to try it yet. The red lime sounds really interesting.

The tangerine is actually a preference of my husband’s. He like sweet.  Anything sweet for 10b?

This is the first time I’ve had fruit on my container citrus trees. I had no idea that you could pick the fruit when still somewhat green. I just started gardening about 2 1/2 years ago. How soft should the fruit be?

I’ll have to research Kishu tangerines. Unfortunately, I’m limited to containers, for now. I have limited planting area, so I’m want to make sure I love the fruit before it goes inground.

You are so right! I should have posted in the citrus. I’m just kind of clueless posting in forums, so I really appreciate the help. Like I said, clueless. :-)

First post, so I’m still figuring out the site. Sorry, for the location. I accidentally minimized the citrus threads.  :)

It’s in a 4-2-1-1 mix (pine bark, peat, compost, perlite). Mixed with lime, and Jobes citrus fertilizer. I also hit with a half strength liquid feed of fish/kelp feed every 2 weeks or so.

Really!?!

The other 2 were on the ground and filled with ants, so I didn’t try to eat them. Do you think I should pick it now and try to eat it?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sunburst Tangerine in a container fruit drop
« on: November 07, 2020, 09:45:59 AM »
Hello,

This is my first post, so please excuse any fumbles I make.  I am growing a Sunburst tangerine in a 15 gallon pot, for now. It seems to be doing really well. This is the first time I allowed it to keep 3 tangerines. All other fruit had been removed until this year.  So far, 2 out of 3 fruit have dropped. It seems they are full sized but never completely lose the green on the fruit. Pictures are of the latest fruit to drop and the tree. I have one left, wondering if it will fully ripen.

Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks!!
