I ordered 3 fresh seeds about a month ago and sowed them immediately, as the seller said they lose viability very fast. First one sprouted yesterday.

I'm planning to grow as a houseplant for awhile (supposedly slow growing), maybe eventually find room for it in a greenhouse when I get around to building one.

Does anyone know if they are self-fertile, or have any experience growing this plant? I'm concerned the other two seeds won't germinate so just curious if I'd need to get another one to ensure fruit (some day).

It's called Annoying jaboticaba for a reason...  ;D

No Myrciaria spp. have problems with self-fertility that I know of.
Eugenia luschnathiana = CURUIRI.    Talisia esculenta = PITOMBA
I do not recommend people deal with Fruit Lovers, Prisca Mariya or Fernando Malpartida

😂 well in that case I'll be happy I got one of them to sprout and I'll give it a nice cozy spot under the lights and hope it doesn't do anything else too annoying like suddenly dying

They have nice foliage unlike other jabs and almost like some tropical ficus. The fruit isn't great but they are a tough tree not needing as much water as most. I let my big one fruit for a few seasons before I chopped it down.

Any idea how long they wait to start producing said foliage? I keep patiently wondering when this little stick is gonna grow leaves...

In other news, another one popped last week, so now it's 2 of 3:

I have a few seedlings of Vexator, two months in the soil. Sabara also next to it for comparison, also at two months.
