Madem Francis is no longer a BAD TASTING Mango.
« on: July 25, 2017, 10:10:40 AM »
I like my sweet potato and pumpkin pies sweet. Have you ever tried eating either without sugar?

The first 3 years of my Madem Francis Mango bearing fruit were almost sugarless. This year they are sweet and the mangos resemble sweet potato or pumpkin pies (not quite as good as I love both pies :P). I am now happy with keeping it and not top working the tree. That sugar must be added to those spices to make a good pumpkin pie...

I posted this so if you top worked yours years ago, you may want to let a section of it bear fruit again next year if yours only tasted of spices and without sugar in previous years. Also if you have a young tree you may want to give it a few more years before giving it the axe...

This information is good to consider for all types of mango trees.

Interesting.  I ripped one out after back-to-back shitty tasting fruiting years.  Thought it was horrible.  But, there ya go.

Mine have been excellent from the first year. This year they are not staying on the tree till they are perfect, but they've been pretty darn good. The side benefit is none of the local thieves have taken any, they're waiting for the color.

As far as I know it is polyembryonic.

I always liked Madam Francis despite all that fiber. I think Graham is quite similar. Might be good fiberless alternative in the same flavor category.

that's interesting Future. this seedling is much better than the parent with little to no fiber....very thin long leaves like ice cream.

Remember that polyembrionic mango seeds have one embryo that was produced by plant sex, and is therefore different from the mother variety.  Even if the mother tree had sex with itself (self-pollinated), the chromosomes were re-shuffled, re-twisted, and will probably be expressed differently.

So one should not express surprise at getting a different variety from a polyembrionic seed, even though the majority of the embryos are exact clones of the mother tree.

I'm no mango expert.. especially not a Hatian mango expert.XD But are Madame Francis and Francine the same cultivar? The international market I visit sells Francine mangos, and I found them to look similar to Madame Francis. Because of my location as well as the fact that I do not yet grow mangos, I haven't gotten to taste many cultivars yet. But I can say they weren't great. I did get to try a Kent, and I preferred it.:)

Wow what a table,  That Seņorita looks pretty big,  much bigger than Madam Francis.  would definitely love to get seed ( if poly ) or scion   someday. if it is something with similar flavor profile than the MF.  it will be well accepted by the public here since its something they are familiar with,  the larger size, and less fiber are a plus also.
