Hello

I found this very nice fruit in the south of Sabah (Beaufort) and in the North of Sarawak (Miri). I think it was in the end of December or in the first day of January.

Exactly like Willughbeia sarawakensis (kubal madu) just slightly less sweet.
Sweet and sour and the texture of khaki.

Hi everybody

Soon I will be in the north east of Peninsular Malaysia (Kota Bharu and Kuala Terrenganu) for a week. I'm looking for good suggestions to see fruits markets, fruits farms or some nice other places about fruits.

Thank you for your help.

Here in Reunion Island we use to plant the seeds directly in the ground to avoid them died during our cool winter or during the transplantation.

Hello
You have to wait the entire maturity of the fruit, then put the seeds...
not opened, in a horn 30 minutes at 150°C it's quite OK. In Peru they say it's better to open before (I didn't try that way)

Baccaurea macrocarpa and angulata are better fruits but my favourite is Baccaurea polyneura (syn.Baccaurea hookeri). Unfortunetely they don't grow well here in Reunion Island?

Hi Pocsi
Durio testudinarium is the only one wild durio I didn't be able to taste. In Sarawak its fruiting season changes according to its location and the year !
In the south of Miri there's a little town called Bekenu and near bekuno you can find Kampung Selanyau. You must asked for this in Bekenu market and say you're looking for Durian Kura Kura, you will find somebody ready to help you for few ringgits. They say to me the season is in June. In the north of Sarawak in  Lawas I heard it's fruiting in October. Near Kuching they said to me it's fruiting around december (you can try the Agricultural Center of Sarawak after Semenggoh wild life center). In Sibu I got immatures fruits in january.
In Sabah I saw only two trees (one death and one less than 30 cm tall !). If whenever you can't success, I have a six year old tree (given by an old woman in Selanyau, the one who came walking from Brunei with its little tree !) You can find also in Tenom Agricultural center in Sabah (cf year of the durian).

Good luck

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: belen market Iquitos
« on: July 27, 2016, 05:35:11 AM »
Hi Oscar
I stayed there only three days cause we were upset about the cold weather of Cusco and Lima. I don't think it was the good season for fruits. Yes I found sachamangua, Umari, Abiu, Camu camu, jenipape, Inga edulis, Biriba, Cupiaçu, carambola...But the place is not very secure so I only got pictures near the policemen.

Aguaje is used raw and I didn't like but in Ice cream it's a delight !
Oenocarpus bataua is called Ungurahui, I saw it but that day I didn't have anything to get a picture. They use it for a drink (taste like açaï but slightly fermented) and Ice cream (Sorry I didn't try !).
You're not so far to go and appreciate the place !
