In japan, we are using nets for supporting the fruits, those nets hang from the roof of the greenhouse or metalic poles with ropes and hooks.

thank you so much for your advice. Unfortunately it's too late, I wasn't at home for the we and it spread so fast, even the base has it now.
You are completely right, it starts on the new growth but I didn't want to cut it at first, as it really looked like some insect bites, now I kinda regret it. The new stems (infected) are still growing, I'm going to wait and see, there is not much to do now, maybe stop watering for a few days.
I also noticed the dark area are becoming lighter like some coffee stains.

It's definitely a disease, bacterial or some kind of wills. I found a guy who has the exact same problem on another forum, but nobody was able to give an answer.

Ok, I'm freaking out. That thing is expanding and the more I look at it, the less it looks like some insect bites.
It looks more like the plant is sick. Could it be the water? It's hot now and I've been watering it everyday.

I have a problem with my DF, there are some black spots with lots of little darker spots that looks like aphid bites on the new growth.
it happened during the night. I am sorry for the poor quality pics, anyone has an idea what it is?

with passionfruits it's quite easy, but the main problem is algae forming inside the bottle.
Because it's transparent, algae tends to spread. That is not really a problem I think because my passionfruits are really doing well.
I'm growing Passionfruits mostly in a field, the bottle is just for 1st year cuttings so that the roots gets bigger, but they always fruit very easily. ;)

I've being doing the same for years, only I use 2L Coca cola bottle (I prefer coke's taste sorry)
It works perfectly with Passionfruits

never shoot a person for stealing a fruit.

I only shoot animals sometimes (and try to avoid a lethal shot if at all possible)

only discharge a firearm if you, or someone near you, is in grave danger, because of a perpetrator....you must fear for your life, or have reasonable fear that you might be seriously injured, before you can use deadly force.

and never use non-lethal force to shoot at someone on your property who is not a threat...because one of two (or both) of these things will happen:

1) you to jail for shooting at someone who was not a threat (like this woman in South FL in the other thread), even if it's a BB gun, and you don't hit them, you go to jail.

2) you paying hospital bills for someone you shot.  The BB will not kill the perpetrator, it will only injure them, possibly requiring you to pay hefty medical bills.

3) You will have to run away to Fiji before being arrested and stay there eating mangoes for the rest of your life.

Sorry, but I do not agree, let me explain.
You say they are searching a way to to bring the fruit to maturity in 8 month, to skip the cooler month.
That looks like fantasy, to grow a pineapple you need heat, lot of fertilizer and a lot of sun, with long sunny days.
A pineapple will stop growing at around 15, 16 ゜Celsius, that means no growth=no fruit.
A pineapple must have enough energy to put a fruit, the size must be around 80 cm. And even at this size, you'll end up with a bunch of small fruits. Only suckers can get that big under a year. But again you have to bring your suckers inside in winter.
A fruit needs 4~6 month to be edible that means you have only 2~4 month to bring the plant to maturity. They have to find a new variety, cause that sound impossible even in the tropics.
I'm growing Bogor and white pineapples. And only half of them made it through this winter.
Now a lot of members are growing pineapples and may not agree, but growing indoor through winter sounds like the only way as I see it.

Yes the taste is nice, but I'm not expecting fruits before a long time.
Did you grow yours from seed too?

Here is a picture of my 2 garcinia hombroniana grown from seed.

The one on the right took 7 month to grow those new leaves. The one on the left sprouted 1 month after the right one, so I'm expecting new growth on this one next month.
Man are they slow growers! At this rate it will take 3 or 4 years to see the first branch.

The main reason I would pollinate a Dragon Fruit flower with E. oxypetalum is to increase the odds of getting fruit.
so it's possible to cross pollinate those 2 species? I'm asking because a shop here is selling sets of Pink Dragon fruits / E. oxypetalum, and they say the pink dragon needs cross pollination. As I'm interrested in the pink DF I was wondering if that set is a good deal or a dead-end.

Can you cross pollinate Dragon fruit with Dutchman's pipe"(Epiphyllum oxypetalum)?
they are very different species but the flowers and fruits are very similar (in fact they call the Dutchman's pipe "mini-dragonfruits" in Japan).
I think it's worth a try, what do you think?

Mangosteen, that's  how you harvest them, and for mangoes, I don't know how it is in the US, but here in japan we grow them in a net, and pick them up for sale when they fall in the net

The shop I use to buy to here in japan sell sprouted seeds and trees of red durio graveolens, they say the fruit doesn't smell strong

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pink guava in pot.
« on: April 24, 2015, 02:03:49 AM »
I have found some crafted pink guava in a nursery.
I live in Japan zone 9A 9B so I won't plant it directly in the ground.
Has anyone got it to fruit in pot? I would like to read your experience.
Strawberry guava is much easier, but the taste is somewhat more tart and sometime quite bad.
Thank you.
