Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Variegated Feijoa Scions

My cuttings arrived today with very generous bonuses! This is a great deal on a rare plant. Thanks Kevin!

Need at least 1/2 inch diameter.
But smaller plants are good too if they meet the requirements.

It's a long shot, but doesn't hurt to ask!

Not quite .50 but I have a few in the .30-.35 range in easier to ship 7" tree pots

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What is wrong with my Red Jaboticaba?
« on: February 25, 2024, 07:09:00 PM »
I had something similar happen to a Grimal a while back. It ended up losing it's leaves, but recovered over the spring. Could be a phosphorus, or other deficiency, caused by the soil being too wet and cold. I have some reds in 1 gals outside doing great under 40% shade cloth. They're rootbound and usually pretty thirsty, but because of all the rain, I haven't had to water them since early December. Jabos and pots with saucers can be risky in the winter. I'd stop watering it and put it somewhere warm like a greenhouse if you have one. No rain and no direct sun. Good luck

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Eugenia Cross Species Grafting
« on: February 22, 2024, 11:57:26 PM »
So Orange CORG is not compatible with standard CORG??  Did not expect that.  Would love to hear from others that attempted this cocktail. I was planning to graft my Orange CORG to a mature CORG this spring as a backup and with hope that a diverse pollinator would improve fruit set.

A failed graft or two, or even ten, doesn't necessarily mean incompatibility. Good luck with your CORG. I'll be attempting some yellow and orange grafts this spring too.

Don't get discouraged K-Rimes. Keep experimenting!

Pretty sure that's a wine, not a variety of Jaboticaba. I think they use regular red Jaboticaba to make it

I might have a couple Grimal and Branca Vinho available. What diameter are you looking for?

I just ordered a batch of jabo seeds and they were super fresh and viable. Great deals!

Myer lemons are useless.

Could you please elaborate further on your comment on Meyer Lemons?

What are it's cons?

Does it have any pros?

True it is less tart than a true lemon, but I have a tree and they seem to make a nice glass of lemonade.

Cheers!

Meyer lemon is the most useful fruit in my yard. I don't have to buy juices anymore. I make a frozen lemonade concentrate with different
flavors. Loquat, jabo, pomegranate, peach, plum, tangerine and whatever else I can find in my yard. The frozen concentrates last all year,
but the pomegranate and Sabara jabo lemonades disappear the fastest. I also freeze unsweetened juice for marinades and dressings.
One complaint? I guess they're a bit over-productive, which can be a problem for some

My cuttings arrived fast and look great, along with generous extras! Gonna be a busy weekend! ;D

Thanks Kevin!

Congrats man. I just wish it wasn't 150 miles away on a Wednesday night. Will it be live streamed or recorded?

14
They look fine. Don't worry too much about the direction of the roots. They'll find their way down on their own. Soil looks a little dry and I would recommend some kind of dome to keep the humidity up. Tropical sprouts are very delicate and susceptible to dry air

15
The guavas look so beautiful. Congratulations on your wonderful results.

Thanks. Still have 2 plants left. Would love to see what you've got growing in AK

Nice plants and well packaged. Thanks eyeckr!

Thanks Kevin! That means a lot to me coming from you. Your collection is amazing. I hope to see it in person at one of your gatherings some day.

You'll love this tree. Delicious fruits and very ornamental. I have a messy Jacaranda in my front yard and I want to replace it with a fruiting/ornamental that can handle my 100F full sun. I'm thinking of replacing it with this or a Sabara. I have a 10 foot Sartre in the ground in my backyard that handles full sun 100F+ days with zero burn. In fact, they seem to love it. I hear they're also very cold hardy, but I wouldn't really know ::) Good luck with yours!

My e.strip has been outdoors, in it's original 3gal nursery pot ::), for almost 3 years and it looks great. My climate is pretty dry and I get maybe four or five nights a year in the mid 30's. Of course they don't thrive in the winter, but the cold hasn't done any harm. My plant had a handful of flowers the first couple years and flowered heavily this year. Hoping to get fruit next year. They should do well in your area

I heard southern AG citrus nutritional spray is similar to PG-S. It has most of the same ingredients John B mentioned and my plants love it. I've had better results with it than I do with their iron/zinc spray. Of course, it's a little more expensive

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Parfianka Pomegranate Blooming...like now
« on: September 26, 2023, 04:43:30 PM »
Thanks John, does those late bloom ever overwinter and mature next year? Or is it just a waste and I should just remove the blooms?

I don't have experience with Parfianka specifically, but I'm guessing it's going to drop everything this winter. Leave and flowers. Even with our mild winters, pomegranate love heat and those flowers have little to no shot of becoming fruit. You can dry out the flowers and use them in a tea if you want to put them to use

Ham???  Are we talking about Honey-Baked ham?  Or perhaps Black Forest?  If it tastes anything like Jamon Iberico then sign me up!!
Shmojojojo- if you have any other rooted cuttings after AndrewAZ is covered, I would be interested as well.

Lol I'm not sure I could tell the difference between any of those hams, but I can tell you it's like deli meat ham. Like I said, it's an aftertaste. It's not like you're biting into ham. It was still sweet and apricot-y.

I've received some interest, but I guess Andrew has first dibs if he wants one. I didn't plan on selling/trading these yet, but I offered since this post came up. I just transplanted them from their tray a few days ago and they're still pretty scrawny. I'll post some pics this weekend. If there is interest, my plant has many suckers popping up that I'll attempt to root. All the suckers make me wonder if my plant was from a cutting as well

pink guava and the little runt eugeniafolia (myrtoides). I'll report back on taste.

The fruit is a little small, probably could get bigger, but I haven't been watering because I'm busy.
Ok, I'm not really impressed with the eugeniafolia. Kinda troll. Very sour and has so many seeds but they are huge seeds.

That was my reaction with the cas guava also (I forgot I even got to try that one) - But at least with cas, it is bigger so there you have it.

Hang in there, the eugeniafolia will improve! Been there done that with the first batch of small fruits. Sour and astringent. Even my second flush of my first fruiting was a major improvement. Same goes for a lot of psidium. Was the flesh a dark red color?

24
I appreciate it and will probably take you up on that when i decide to pull the trigger.  I bought a matt snow black sapote from Champa last month. Great prices. Here is what my bookmarks for online sellers look like. Gotta be shrewd being away from all the action.

Sure man, let me know. They hold plants too (I always see reserved plants bundled together) in case you want to get in on that sweet 50% off and pick them up later

I recently rooted a couple pitomba cuttings. The fruits are delicious and pretty big. They're like a concentrated sweet apricot with some mango mixed in.
I never understood the ham thing until maybe a month ago. One of the fruits had a distinct ham aftertaste. It's not necessarily unpleasant. Not sure
why that one had it and the others didn't. Maybe it was under or overripe, since they go from green to ripe in just a few days. The rooted cuttings
are 8in tall and 1/8in thick. I can send you pics if you're interested
