Kaua'i Sugarloaf and White Jade are my two favorite white-fleshed pineapples to grow and eat. I have one Kaua'i Sugarloaf flowering right now.

Hi Sonny,

A great place to obtain some rare pineapples is the USDA germplasm repository in Hilo, Hawaii.
Here's the link: https://www.ars.usda.gov/pacific-west-area/hilo-hi/daniel-k-inouye-us-pacific-basin-agricultural-research-center/tropical-plant-genetic-resources-and-disease-research/docs/main/

I grew a Kona Sugarloaf pineapple 2 years ago which I bought from Florida Hill nursery. It was very sweet with white to pale yellow, soft flesh. The fruit was ripe when it turned green with yellow eyes. This year, I'm growing two White Jade pineapples for the first time. One should be ready to harvest in November.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Antigua Black Pineapple
« on: September 08, 2013, 11:55:33 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I bought what was advertised as "Antigua Black" pineapple plant from Wellspring Gardens on Ebay in July. The problem: I did a search for Antigua Black pineapple
pics and discovered the plant has spiny leaves. The plant I received is totally smooth with red stripes running length wise along the leaves. Is any growing this
pineapple variety? If so, can you describe the plant's physical characteristics?

Thanks

Al

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Black Pineapple Variety?

I bought this variety from Ebay a few weeks ago. The plant is growing well, and the leaves have a reddish
coloration on them.

Yes, I am sure. I bought a Hawaiian sugarloaf crown from a Hawaiian nursery 10 years ago. The fruit was white-fleshed, no acid, and very sweet. The plant had no spines.

The Kona sugarloaf I bought last year from Florida Hill Nursery had spiny leaves. I will be harvesting the fruit this fall.

Not all sugarloafs are the same in terms of plant characteristics.

Hello everyone,

My name is Alphonzo. I live in Chicago and grow pineapples indoors organically in containers under artificial lighting. My goal is to grow the best white-fleshed varieties in the world. If anyone is growing Pernambuco, let me know via pvt msg. I look forward to networking and sharing information with you all.

Hey Pam2012,

Thanks for responding. Can you describe your sugarloaf plant? There are several types out there.

Hey Plantlover13,

I bought sugarloaf plants from Florida Hill Nursery about a year ago. The reddish coloration is natural...nothing to worry about.

Hi Adam,

I would love to grow them in Chicago. Please sign me up for two plants.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,

My passion is growing fruiting pineapple plants indoors here in Chicago. I am looking for Hawaiian White Sugarloaf offshoots. I previously grew this variety in early 2004.
Unfortunately, fruit lovers nursery has discontinued mailing plants. This variety has COMPLETELY spineless leaves. I would like to grow this variety again. If anyone can help me out, please contact me.  Thanks in advance.
