Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Miracle Fruit-Most improved fruit after consuming
« Last post by buddy roo on April 15, 2024, 09:20:37 AM »
I am always amazed at what tastes change after eating miracle berries. They get rid of the heat in spicy foods, take the metallic taste out of your mouth caused by certain medications, and change the flavor of mediocre fruits. If only they would make coffee taste sweet!!

CarolynHi Carolyn , so you are saying if I eat a miracle berry, then I can eat a hot pepper and it wont burn my mouth ?

Simon,

Just wanted to confirm that the machine only has forward speed and no reverse, right? The switch dial has 1 on left, 0 in the middle and 2 on the right. 0 is on and 2 is off but can't seem to switch to 1. I'm wondering if yours also works like that?

The machine has both forward and reverse. I don’t remember which is which but it does have a reverse.

Simon

Could you do me a favor and confirm the operation of the switch for me please because I may have a bad switch here. If it also has reverse, then the middle position which is 0 must be off I think.

Thanks

I do have some yellow Hog plum seedlings in 4in pots. I did have some Mexican plum in 4in but unfortunately just moved them all into gallons. Not practical to ship now. My buddy has a native peach and I'll likely get some seeds before long. Super prolific and quick to fruit from seeds. Less than 2 years. Self seeds readily from fallen fruit too. Lots of heavy producing wild Mulberry here. Likely morus alba not rubra but there is true rubra around too. Maypop here too. Maybe in another few seasons my Flatwoods plum will fruit. It maybe whats also called American plum but not sure. It's a native here in north florida. They are more tree like but chickasaw is more bush like. Don't forget native pawpaw and persimmon trees too.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: News of Pineapple Guava Expert Mark Albert’s Passing
« Last post by Lucy Coffee on April 15, 2024, 05:28:26 AM »
Yesterday I read that the expert of pineapple guava (feijoa) passed away several days ago.  Sad news and a huge loss to the tropical fruit community.  Has anyone else seen the same news?
Sending my condolences to those who knew and appreciated Mark Albert's work with pineapple guava. His contributions to the field will undoubtedly be remembered and valued.

Sad news indeed, and you're right about how great his contribution was, we can't ignore it, one always has to move on, and we need to carry on in their spirit to move on with our lives.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Vista White Seedling Tree? Do you have One
« Last post by sc4001992 on April 15, 2024, 03:21:28 AM »
Just curious if anyone here has been growing the Vista White Seedling tree that was sold at Exotica Nursery in SD.

I just got some large cuttings that I will be grafting and adding to my collection. If you have this tree and it had fruits, please describe the fruits and if it tastes as good as the true Vista White or not.

I also grew out many Vista White seedling trees from my tree, and now I have one large tree (20ft tall) which has been fruiting for a few years now. The fruit looks similar to the Vista White, but maybe not as pure white flesh as the original variety. Also the fruit looks similar but the fruits do not grow in such huge clusters as my true Vista White (see photos below).

But I do notice my seedling Vista White tree seems to be more tolerant of the sun, the fruit doesn't seem to get sunburned, but the real variety will sometimes. Also, the color of the skin is a little darker than the real one. I will need to take some good photos of my seedling Vista White this month when they fruit again. Taste did seem similar and so the only advantage might be that the tree is stronger, vigorous, and can tolerate the sun better.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best loquat varieties
« Last post by sc4001992 on April 15, 2024, 03:14:31 AM »
Thanks Kevin. Yes, I like my Big Jim (brix=18-20) and Vista White (16-17). The Vista White has the whitest flesh of all the loquats I tried, and it isn't acidic if you let it ripen.

The KT1-KT31 series seedling trees are good, my highest brix is the KT6, and KT23. Both of these have brix reading above 20, KT6 & Kt23 came in with highest at 28 without the fruit being wrinkled and almost dried out.  The very good tasting named variety of loquats has brix = 14-17 for reference.
