Pink and red fungi that grows in my mulch...

I had the exact same very strange things growing under one of my mulched trees last summer. It ran its course then disappeared, seemed to be harmless. Did a little research and it looks it may be this Mutinus elegans, known as the elegant stinkhorn, the dog stinkhorn, the headless stinkhorn, or the devil's dipstick.
