Temperate Fruit Buy, Sell, & Trade / Black Haw
« on: March 26, 2024, 07:20:40 AM »
I'm looking for black haw (sideroxylon lanuginosum) seeds or seedlings. Anyone have a specimen with good tasting fruit? I'd like to get some trees started even if I never get fruit.
Thanks, D

They will set seed in a few months.

I looked and there was no fruit on the bay laurels. I can do scions, but have no idea if they will root. Let me know what you want to do. D

4
I don't think they are holding seed right now, but I'll check.

5
I have bay leaf. Would you want cuttings or seed? D

6
Thank you sir.

Hi Brian, How does it do in the heat? I'd like to try it, but 100+ is not uncommon here in the Summer. Thanks, D

What is the difference between deoscoria alata and winged yam?

I plant seeds from my fruit and have excellent germination. D

Batatas are indigenous to a lot of Texas. They grow with absolutely no care. We've recently had droughts with almost no rain for 3 years and they thrive. They are tough! D

Hi Derek, Is it Winter hardy for you? I haven't grown it before. Thanks, D

They do fruit, but they aren't spineless. I'd rather trade. D

Semoinole pumpkins are native/adapted to Florida. You should be able to find seed. D

The freeze we had in '21 at our land ( about 12°f) knocked one of our figs to the ground. I thought it was dead, but came back from the roots and actually made more top growth that year than it had in previous years. About a year later we had a similar freeze event and it sailed through with no die back. Something happened. D

Hi Kevin, How much cold can they take?  Do you have them planted out? Ok in your climate? Thanks! Dan
