New Zealand lemonade tree
« on: March 28, 2020, 02:44:18 PM »
Looking for opinions on fruit quality. I have very limited space and I have to be selective on my choices.  This is a tree that has been on my radar to purchase for a while, but, it was never available for sale in AZ.  Now a local nursery has one.  It is only semi dwarf, so it would take up a lot of room.  Is it worth it, is it top tier fruit or is it more of novelty.
If it was on flying dragon, I would have already purchased it, lol.

I grow the NZL tree.  I would put the cultivar into the novelty category.  I like the fruit for eating out of hand.  The acid content is quite mild  blended with a sweet taste.  Does taste somewhat like lemonade.  Cannot be used as a lemon due to the fruits low acid content.  Would be good to blend into salads.  Good to eat out of hand, but then one can only eat so much fruit out of hand,  The tree is very productive,

I have one too.  I also am very limited on yard space.  It taste like a lemon without the acidity.  My tree is very young and cannot produce the sugars yet.  I only grow food I can't buy at the grocer or fruit stand.  My fruiting NZL is on C35.  I will be getting fruit off my NZL on Seville sour.  I'll see soon how those fruits are.  I plan to keep mine till it or I die.
