What will happen this time around? In the 2008-2012 recession and onward, food prices were stable, with not much inflation. This time around, food prices are getting inflated. 10% yearly, they say.

What I see are processed foods (peanut butter, frozen this and that, bread etc.) prices are rising faster than the basics. Such as meats, chicken, rice, beans, vegetables that you cook at home.

Zands I havent seen a doctor in over 25 years when I broke my kneecap off.  Had that kneecap sitting up on my thigh and my knee swelled up like a softball.  Spent the night in the hospital and had surgery the next day.  I was trying to hold out but at 3am the pain got to me.  I rang the bell and nurse came and told me to roll over and she injected my with morphene in my butt and laughed at me.  Thats the last time I took a shot.   ::)

That is something else! Yikes! No vaxxxxxxx since I was under parental control at 11 years old. You (me) don't take the annual flu shot means you are more immune to Covid--xyz

Bro you better pray for lots of good ventilation, winds and breezes. Gotta keep the air circulating or xxxxx fungi will build up. Your trees are putting out lots of righteous moisture just by living..... then what happens?

Hi All,

I have been growing in SD for about a year and am now very active in the CRFG San Diego board. Would love to meet more San Diego peeps. I don't have much produce right now but can buy some stuff at Specialty Produce to share.

No worries come on over.  What part of san diego do you reside?

Now you are asking? Lol  Where are them slackers? ---- We are in a post Covid injection landscape. I am at zero and all others should quit now. Quit all boosters.

Ha!  I wish I had a full acre. I have about a 1/4 acre residential lot. I have a total of 153 tropical fruit trees on property with 73 in ground; 19 of which are mango trees that are about 12-14 feet high. The mangos are spaced at five feet apart. Anyway, I think over many years I've accidentally mastered the art of high concentration growing. I even have a mango tree hedge made up of pickering, rosie gold and ice cream. Anyway, it looks like a botanical garden in back, but you would not notice anything amiss in front even though every single tree on property is a fruit producer except for a couple of tall Michelia Alba trees and a purple tabebuia in front. The highlight in the backyard is a long row of several tall mango trees and a couple of 14 feet lychees.

It's hard to balance the line between 'crazy plant guy' and also fit within the scheme of a normal residential neighborhood. I think, by accident, I pulled it off though. Helps that my wife tells me 'no' a lot whenever I try to plant a tree in a bad spot.

I'm headed to Delray Beach to pick up my Sweet Tart and a Sugar loaf mango tomorrow based on your recommendations; maybe a Kathy too (WTH). Thanks very much for your help.   I'll post some pics later this week if anyone is interested.

LOADED fruit tree yard!  You are going to simply tropical/Delray for two trees.
Anyways, we are all looking very smart here with the  inflation rate of 10%

I have a huge front yard, but we use to have a mango tree in the front, and every year someone would steal all of our fruit. One of the hurricanes took it down, but I have been hesitant to plant fruit in the front yard since then.

It only gets real when you plant in the front yard. Stealing is how they show their love and flattery. No I do not believe the every year part. Where is BS Bullie anyways?

What is BS Bullie?
It was a tree that was closer to the street, and someone would come in the middle of the night, back their truck up in the very lower part of our driveway and pick every single fruit. We caught them on the ring, but there was really nothing we could do. A friend of ours said that there was a group of people that mapped out fruit trees in front yards in our neighborhood and would take the fruit every season to sell. I don't know if that is true. We also have a coconut tree in our front yard and I would always catch people climbing up and taking our coconuts. In the middle of the day, when we were home. They would put a mattress on the ground and just take them off and drop them down. One guy told me that the lady that lives in my house lets him do it, but it was like 3 years after we bought the house. So maybe the previous owner didn't eat mango and coconut and just let people take it? We live on a busy street and a lot of people that walked buy would knock on the door and ask if they could take some mangos, and it had more than we could eat so I would always say yes. But to go to bed with a tree full of fruit and wake up to an empty tree was pretty frustrating. It only happened for the first 2 years we had the house then a hurricane destroyed the tree. However, these experiences have made me leery to plant in the front yard.

How right you are, sir!  ;D

I have three mango trees in the front yard (Carrie/Neelam/NDM/) and two avocado. Some are kept small. My HOA has been a bother in past years but now with food prices zooming they lay off.......

Everyone here is righteous because we are growing real food and real distributing it.

You have some mango yard there. How large are they getting. Sounds kinda crowded. Post some photos. Your new mango acquisition will be based on availability and how strong it looks.

Many of the backyard trees are Keitt that were planted 20 -30 years ago. There was a Keitt craze before anyone knew anything about Zill

Anyways you are posting a theoretical question. What mango trees are available to buy at your local nursery and how healthy do they look?

Paid a landscaping company $300 to dispose of all the piles of mango and avocado tree debris
249 views  May 17, 2022  One guy came with the truck and the mulching machine so I thought it was a great opportunity to get some needed full body intense exercise by helping the guy out. It was so great! I’m 73 and I hope that this kind of activity will help get me to 115. Normally I fill my 7 green garbage cans twice a week with cuttings but now I’m in the middle of bringing all my trees to only 3-4 feet from sometimes 30 feet so there are a huge amounts of cuttings to be disposed.

******  I just looked at this video again. The first rule of using a wood chipper is to never wear a long sleeve shirt. Yet these two guys are feeding the wood chipper with long sleeve shirts on.

By the way, I am just giving honest opinions.  No hard feeling, take it for what its worth which is not much!, I am wrong about many things in life, your mileage may vary etc etc etc,

You are in the very dry, great wide open there. Where you live. I must think that in more densely settled locations (Los Angeles etc) , the avocado and mango trees get more protected from "the dry" via buildings and trees close to them. Shading them. Less moisture gets lost.

So their avo and mango results (yields) will be different.

*** I was wondering how you got rid of yr mango trimmings. The ultimate is to separate all the leaves and thin branches. Then mulch them into my lawn with my lawnmower. Half the time I do this. Other half I chuck them out for the trash man.

****In Broward county all trash goes to the incinerator in Pompano. So my mango debris help fuel the fire. I dump my old motor oil in too. Matter of fact, I got a mailing from the local trash haulers aka Waste Management. In so many words they said, "don't bother putting any recyclables in your recyclable bin/trash can" They all get sorted into the incinerator trash to be burned.

****All except aluminum cans. As far as iron and steel? I think that after burning everything, these are pulled out with a crane and a electromagnet. At least I like to think so.

Last year was very good. This year is below normal. Last year my Pickering, Carrie and Sweet Tart (#1!) trees were heavy producers. My Carrie always comes through, so even this year it is OK, but half of last year.

Hi--- What is this problem? All input is appreciated. I have my own suspicions, but I would like to hear yours first. A deficiency I think.

This photo shows the problem in the early stages....

73
I have used soluble kelp powder(ascophyllum nodosum) as a general tonic for plants that fail to thrive for over 20 years. It is great for treating trace element deficiencies which may be one factor, but it also contains natural substances that make plants thrive. I have been told it increases grafting success if applied to scion and stock but have not tested it. It does seem to help with rooting cuttings. I first noticed it to increase bloom on citrus, but it seems to work on everything. 5 pounds in a single application rejuvenated 10 acres of pasture so quickly and of such high quality to the point that neighbors asked what I sprayed it with.

Book marking this. I am thinking that dump this https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l2632&_nkw=kelp+meal&_sacat=159912 into a five gallon bucket, fill with water. Let this ferment for 15-30 days. Run through a fine mesh strainer. Take the kelp dregs and run through a strong blender. Use as a foliar or a drench.

Next year I really need to spray sulfur, it seems like chopping back most of my permaculture crops when it started to cool off help with airflow and anthracnose

Foliar MSM = sulfur

fliptop ---- That's a very cool cat!

Best compromise would be mango and pepperoni pizza.

Anchovy pizza rules. Buy a good quality frozen pizza and a can of anchovies. Cook/bake the pizza and add anchovies near the end. I ramp it up with some umami diced onions or garlic or diced green peppers. If you don't mod your pizzas you are a chump. Another mod is, sprinkle a bit of cayenne powder on the pizza as it bakes.
