The medium needs to be kept very wet when establishing layers in pots.

Dont. You will kill the plant like I did with my first vine, on top of not having good enough drainage.
I guess I can try to ease the plants out of the containers and add soil to the bottom or up-pot. Maybe add mulch for the plants that I want to wait until the end of the 2024 season to do that for (mulch should let enough air in not to harm the trunk while keeping the moisture closer to the surface of the soil, encourage roots to make use of the near-surface).

Why would drainage be an issue though?

From what I recall, the Carmine can be divided into four varieties: Palace Pink, Full Red, Born Red, and Big Leaf Red; with palace pink and full red being the best.

not  “four varieties”,It's five series.

宫粉红 gong fen hong --Palace Pink
全红 quan hong --Full Red
出世红chu shi hong --Born Red
大叶红da ye hong --Big Leaf Red
七月红qi yue hong --July Red

七月红是最多人种植的一个系列( July Reds are one of the most widely grown series.)

What is the difference between the Four Season Red and Carmine?

Is it because Four Season Red has fruits all four season of the year?

I think the Sylvia guava I found is more similar to the Four Season than the Carmine. Can you tell me the weight of the largest Four Season fruits?

The largest Sylvia guava (if you saw my posts) is 243 grams, which is larger than any Carmine photos I have seen.

My understanding is that while Helicostylis sp. is actually potentially psychoactive/medicinal in some way (but also may not be, hard to find solid info) with a tasty fruit, takini is actually Brosimum acutifolium Huber subsp. acutifolium.  They're both Moraceae however Helicostylis is within tribe Castilleae while Brosimum is tribe Dorstenieae, they are related trees but I don't believe Helicostylis pendunculata is takini. So either ID is wrong and you have Brosimum or (more likely) you have Helicostylis which is not--but still a very interesting and worthwhile tree. See paper "Identification of 5-hydroxy-tryptamine (bufotenine) in takini (Brosimum acutifolium Huber subsp. acutifolium C.C. Berg, Moraceae), a shamanic potion used in the Guiana Plateau" which discusses this issue briefly, let me quote it:

I can supply the article if you want the full thing.

I am, however, interested in purchasing these and other seeds from you once I get a small seed permit (I've been very interested in helicostylis species as well), but if you can locate the seeds for the actual Brosimum acutifolium Huber subsp. acutifolium I would also be very interested for my collection of curiosities.  That has been a white whale for me.

the older trunks are susceptible to fungus. are you able to lift the plant out of the pot? if the roots are substantial the whole plant root system should pop out with the soil. then you can add soil to the pot. i have a short video of what the root system looks like on a 3 gallon plant https://www.youtube.com/shorts/LeF0tpc2Vbw notice the entire rootball came out with barely any soil visible

Nice job Brian, now to keep it alive in transition from layer to potted plant best o f luck 8)

With air layering, this is the hardest part in my opinion.
