Title: Purple mangosteen cracking on trunk, is it normal?
Post by: FV Fruit Freak on June 19, 2019, 06:34:30 PM
Is this cracking on the trunk normal during mangosteen growth? These trees are about three years old.

No, I donít think itís normal.  But overall your trees look pretty good.  Iím surprised you have them in such small pots.  Looks like they ought to be in 5 gal buckets to me.
Like most things with mangosteen those cracks must have opened slowly, but the trees seem to be dealing with it.

That reminds me of cicada damage. They cut a slit into the bark to lay eggs, the resulting scar looks just like that. Iíve seen them this year here, the species I have here makes a clicking noise.

Very nice trees!  Those look pretty big.  What is the size and where did you get them from?
