Yes, i am growing it now.. my tree has been in the ground for a couple of years now but has not fruited yet, hopefully this or next year.  It is a slow grower.
I have not heard the issue with the fruit fly but I'll take it into account.

I bought mine at Florida Nursery Mart in Davie a couple of years ago.. tree hasn't fruited yet but growing like crazy

Haven't tried rose apple but i have tried the cashew in my country, dominican republic. the fruit part is awful, you would not like it and it comes with only one cashew. I would not buy a cashew tree

Hi,
i bought my tree from Florida Nursery Mart in Plantation, FL. for about $29.00.. my tree has been in the ground for a couple of year and has not fruited yet. it is a vey slow grower so i would advice you to buy the tree instead of trying to grow them from seed as i will take you a lot longer to get fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: papaya fruitflies

I tried everything from bagging them to trying to poison them with no avail.. the only thing that seemed to work was to cut it's life cycle..
the papaya fruit fly inserts an egg into the papayas on the tree, the egg becomes a larva that eats the seeds inside the papaya, it rots and the papaya falls to the ground.  then the larva gets out of the papaya, digs a hole in the ground  where it matures and becomes a fruit fly and repeats the cycle. you have to cut the cycle.. when you see that the papaya, on the tree, has been infected.. discard the papaya, throw it out, away from the house so the larva never becomes a fly.. if you have many papaya trees, it might be hard to prevent one of the papayas to fall to the ground but that is what you have to do.. papayas should never fall to the ground, that's where the larva matures into another fly..

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Chilling hours
« on: January 21, 2016, 01:26:25 PM »
that won't work.. the chilling hours have to be on the branches, not the roots.. I tried that on my peach tree before without avail and finally gave up on my beloved peach tree and planted something else instead.
if you are not getting enough chilling hours at your location for your lychees now, you probably would not be getting them in the future as global warming is making the winters milder. sooner or later you will come to that realization

cherimoya would not grow in northern Florida as other have said.. it does not tolerate cold temperatures and will kill the plant.. try growing peaches, apples, figs, blueberries..
