Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cherilata information

Please clarify it seems that above comments suggest cherilata is not a cross between cherimoya x reticulata? Pardon my lack of familiarity with this subject.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cherilata information

Heard the cherilata really tastes good. Has anybody eaten one? What did you think of the taste? Also, how is it to grow? Hand pollination required? Thanks.

Have heard mixed reviews on sugar apple. If it is all you have then give it a try. Otherwise, cherimoya and atemoya might be better choices.

Here in Florida cherimoya is frequently used as rootstock. Don't see why it could not be used as a rootstock in other locations. Not sure what my phet pak chong is grafted onto but cherimoya, atemoya, sugar apple and pond apple all are used, each with its benefits.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Empire pots 65 gallon
« on: April 06, 2017, 02:34:23 PM »
Looking at large pots. This one states: 65 Gallon 18 H x 32 W holding approximately 8.4 Cu/ft soil Allows air flow to the plant rooting zone for fibrous root branching Effective root zone temperature control Can be used for multiple growing seasons Prevents root circlingDoes not trap water.

Anybody familiar with this product? Have any better suggestions? Thanks.

Yeah! Do you want me to message you?

Below are some popular fruit trees I'm considering to plant. Based on your own experiences, rank them with 10 as most cold hardy and 1 for least, if you would. For example, a mango might be a 7 and a lychee a 9. If you want to, include the name of the hardiest of the type- for example mamey sapote 6 viejo (takes the most cold).

Sugar apple
Atemoya
Mango
Mamey Sapote
Sapodilla
Jackfruit
Lychee
Rollinia

Just how much cold can a mamey sapote take? Does an established 5 to 6 foot tall tree realistically handle 29f ? 28f? Is anybody outside of Miami and Pine Island growing them well?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: worm castings
« on: March 19, 2017, 08:15:05 AM »
Having 100lbs of worm castings delivered Tuesday. Will apply it to each fruit tree and add it to trees in pots. Do you think that putting the castings as a top dressing and then adding mulch on top of it is good practice?

Also, good to see Matt R. from Ft. Myers volunteering in the nursery. Did you buy anything?

ECHO was just incredible yesterday! Aaron do you guys have an idea of head count? Was it in the thousands? Wow! Because parking lots were full! Fruit trees were selling left and right in the nursery as well.
