I also think it's a cempedak. It's not a jack fruit.

Thanks everyone for replying!
3 years is not much, compared to other plants that can take 10 years. Can't wait to taste my own fruits!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Yellow Dragon Fruit from seed

Hey there,
Last pring I sowed some Yellow Dragon Fruit seeds from this fruit

Now, even if winter is coming, they are growing well:

6 months ago they were like this

Considering how taller they have become, how much time do you think they'll take to produce fruits from this moment?

So do you know if refrigerating for a few weeks does actually sterilize durian seeds?

Thank you both for your replies!
The seed is still firm, but a bit wet. It could have been the refrigeration to have killed the seed, I don't think it will sprout.
But was germination temperature (73 degrees) warm enough? And, anyway, do you think the seed is fully developed?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian germination help
« on: November 02, 2017, 05:17:09 PM »
Hello everyone, two weeks ago I planted a durian seed in a pot and placed it in a dark, warm place(about 73°F). The seed came from a piece of durian that i bought in an asian store(it was inside a refrigerator, not that chilly btw). Today, since I haven't seen anything coming out, I decided to extract the seed and look why is taking so long.
The seed is still firm and light coloured, however, no sprouts coming out. Any tip will be appreciated.
Do you know why is taking so long? Maybe it's because it was refrigerated or because it requires warmer temperatures? Do you think it will sprout one day?
Here you are some photos of the seed(it's a bit brown cause it has been inside the pot, not because it's rotting)

No germination also for me. I have planted many mangosteen seeds but no one has ever germinated...

Nice work!
I also made a thread of mangosteen seeds germination.
In my area mangosteens are rare in supermarkets, and their seeds are never sprouting: all I did was to buy some seeds on ebay.
Is it a good idea planting them directy in a pot instead of wrapping them in paper towels?

I plan to use ordinary yogurt containers to grow them. And temperatures are chilly in my house during winter. I don't think they would grow much

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Start melon seeds in autumn

I have a question:
Since I will be away from home for many months during the year, I have not much time to sow my melon/watermelon/cucumber seeds in spring. So, I'm planning to plant them in september (a week before leaving) inside some little containers. I will tell my sister to give water and to bring them indoors during winter. When I will be back at the end of may, I will finally plant them in my garden and take care of them.
Do you think I will be successful doing this? Will the plants be alive?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grow durian in pots
« on: August 06, 2017, 06:21:57 AM »
I'm wondering if I can keep growing my durian seedlings in pots obtaining some fruits: I cannot plant them outside because of cold winters.
Has someone of you successfuly done this? How big has to be the pot?
No matter how inferior is the quality of fruits, I just would like to grow my own fruits.
Durians are really rare where I live and really expensive (you can arrive to spend about 60$ for 1 fruit!!!)

How much did he spend for it?If price was relatively high, it can be a Musang King or Red Prawn. If price was lower, it is probably a D24 or Kampung

Ok thanks, but seeds seem enough developed

I wrapped them in a moist paper towel. What is the best way to germinate them?
All the seeds that I planted directly in the soil have become rotten. Why?

I have bought some mangosteen in an asian store and I want to try germinating seeds, but mangosteens were stored in a refrigerator when i bought them. All mangosteens are like fresh and not rotten: from this I deduce they have not been in the refrigerator for so long.
Do you think I will be successful germinating seeds? Which is the best method?
I have never had any success germinating them before btw :(
