Less fruit than last year, but it is sweeter.

We have Indian Rajapuri mango at the local Carrefour in the Gulf region. It's not a bad tasting mango.

After my failed germination, I am also looking for some seeds too. Thanks.

Thanks Chris. My dad went there for some other plants yesterday. I asked him to look for some ilama plants for me, but Mimosa ran out of it. The owner said it's sold out.

Man, that Bertanha cultivar is garbage. My workplace serves it in the cafeteria here in Dubai. Matter of fact, I just had it this morning.  Yes, it is big, bland, and semi-fibrous. I was planning to take a pix and ask you guys about it, but I was like "yeah."

Has anyone had a taste of this cultivar?

the fruits are purple, elongated, and look like a zeppelin

they look like they could tip the scales and beat the largest keitt or lancetilla mango out there.

Any feed back??? Brasilieros calling all Brasilieros!.

Awesome.  Mine are hopeless.  First, one sprouted, but then it died out.

I am curious if there's a nursery in Southern California that sells ilama in a 3-7 gal pot.

Eid Mubarak! Went out to the mall in Dubai with my sister in-law's family. Like a freaking zoo everywhere, but it's fun though.

Gates was what I used when I ran a big cattle operation in Georgia. Heavy, expensive, and very reliable.    You can find Gates at your local specialty farm supply stores.

For mango dummies like me, what are your top 5 mangoes? I have Valencia Pride now, but want to add NDM, Mahachanok, lemon meringue, chac-anon, carabao, and pickering to my yard. How are those mangoes? Thanks.

One of mine came out,  but it is dead already. Rotten root

Awesome news! Thanks.

I have two year old plants growing from seed in pots. They are vigorous growers once they get going. No fruit yet, Iím hopeing at the three year mark I will be seeing some flowers and fruit.

Hello everyone,

Can Elaeagnus Latifolia survive in southern California's environment? Looks like a good plumesque fruit. Thanks.

Thank you, everyone for your insights! Luckily,  only couple trees are affected.  You guys are right. There's a lot of wildlife around this place. My big old Caucasian Mountain dog has been killing and bringing moles and gophers back to the house almost daily.

That's why they are having issues over there. Plus heavy mulching and watering ain't help. Thanks.

Hi folks,

It's this thing. This happens on my parents' place not mine. What'd be your solution? I think Tengard SRF would take care of it. My dad wants to spray it with vinegar or something organic which I think it will not work.

Thanks,

17
Help, black beetles are eating our atemoya grove. We have about 1/2 acre of atemoya. What's the best organic way to deal with these beetles? I am thinking to tell my folks to use Tengard SRF on them.

What you ever seen this before?  What kind of beetles is this?

Thanks,

M

Behlgarden,

That's what I figured too.  Dang it, my freaking father in-law. I told him to tip the plant early. He waited until the last minute to do it.

What should I do to it in June? I am not home but I could get my dad to fix it.

Thanks,

These are one year old Valencia Pride mango and an unknown age avocado that were pruned/tipped in the beginning of the year. It has pushed new growth.

sadly the new growth on mango is actually blooms. dont do anything until late June. or you will get more blooms.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Question on cashews
« on: May 09, 2018, 02:51:45 AM »
Dwarf cashew is still big, roughly 20 feet in height. Most of the cashew trees I ever saw was about the same size of an apple tree.

21
That's exactly what I (my folk) did to my avocado tree. It is pushing new leaves and branches like hell. Hopefully, it will fuit next year.

Sometimes stressing the tree out (by topping it or girdling it) is a good way to force it to fruit, and then you can see if the fruit is worthwhile, and if not, you can stump it and graft new shoots.  Avocados sometimes suffer badly from girdling, so topping the tree might be something to try first -- I've gotten a seedling avocado that was ~10 years old to fruit by topping it.  (The fruit wasn't any good.)

Good news. My dad just reported that one of the illama seeds germinated. Illama really tests my patience.

This looks like the commercial variety that I saw in the Atlanta area's farmer markets. I'd love to grow some myself.

How are the pricing for 3 and 5 gallon plants? Thanks.

Magnolia Gardens Nursery?
