Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: greenhouse minimum temperature
« on: August 15, 2019, 06:09:36 PM »
This is a little off-topic but what heating system do people use for their greenhouses? I'd imagine gas is the best option because it is wireless. If so, what kind of gas heater?

Thanks!

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: Cherimoya/Pawpaw hybrid
« on: August 13, 2019, 11:41:57 PM »
To my eye, your seedlings look different to ordinary cherimoya seedlings. To me, there is real hope that this could be a real hybrid. I can't wait to see more mature plants and eventually what the flowers and fruit looks like.

Please keep us updated :) You should eventually be able to graft a piece of the "Hybrid" seedling to a mature fruiting cherimoya and get flowers faster.

Looks awesome! I've messaged you. Still searching everyone...

This all looks great, thanks for the update. I'm really glad the seeds are germinating. Were these ones stratified?

Looking forward to seeing the seedlings once they have more size.

Nick

Still searching for these if anyone has any leads :)

8
Wish that happened in new Zealand. We don't have any commercial growers. I only know one person in the whole country that has a couple of small seedlings lol. We can't have fruit shipped to us either.

9
Yeah for sure, I've heard the same. Most haven't wanted to sell seeds unfortunately. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

10
Does anyone know where to source these seeds? Still looking. Wanting 100-200 now and willing to pay what they're worth. Thanks.

11
We have Lucuma here, quite a lot of kinds. Still not easy to get your hands on, but they're also quite different to green sapote. The grafting combination sounds great, but we can't receive plant material except seeds in New Zealand. So I have to start a bunch of seedlings first anyway.

So still seeking 50-100 seeds. Anyone?

12
Hey all,

I'm looking for 50-100 green sapote seeds, preferably from a top named variety, shipped to New Zealand.

Please message me if you can help and make a good sale!

Thanks
Nick

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jaboticaba seed storage question
« on: June 04, 2019, 05:26:17 AM »
Hey everyone,

I wanted to know whether Jaboticaba are truly Recalcitrant seeds or if anyone has had experience with successful sprouting dried seeds? Like not bone dry, but say a couple of weeks outside of moisture, kept inside a bag, of course. Or would they lose viability really fast?

Thanks for any info!
Nick

15
Oh cool, good to know.

Do you have picks of Raul's giant cherimoyas??

16
Hey Steve, thanks for that.

I've sent you a PM

17
Hello!

I want to buy anywhere between 100-200 miracle fruit seeds. Is anyone able to supply this many in moist vermiculite?

Thank you!

18
Thanks guys, really helpful :)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Miracle fruit seed shipping question
« on: May 20, 2019, 05:26:39 PM »
Hey guys

Do Miracle Fruit seeds need to be kept moist when shipping? Or can they be shipped dry?

Thanks to anyone that might know.

20
Hey! I sent you a PM :)

21
Hey, what is the flavour like on these?

22
I have recticulata and Illama seeds sorted. Does anyone at all have good quality Birula or Calostro seeds? Or even Tim?

Thank you! :)

23
Nick, I hope you get some good seedling selections from the seeds Brad sent you. Iíve had good luck with Cherimoya seedlings producing excellent quality fruit.

Leoís Hybrid #3 is an F1 Hybrid so I expect it to have significant differences between seedlings but the seeds of Leoís  Hybrid is self pollinated or possibly cross pollinated through insects but there is the possibility it was selfed so some of the traits may be set. You will still probably have to plant out quite a few seeds to get a seedling with the traits you want but you may come up with something fantastic.

If you have an established Cherimoya or Atemoya, you can try grafting your seedlings onto the established tree in hopes that the seedling will Fruit much sooner for you.

I grafted a two year old Orange Sherbet seedling mango scion onto my potted Bonsai double rootstock mango tree and the scion flowered this year.

Simon

Thanks for the pointers and info Simon. Very helpful.

I'm really hoping something good comes out of all of the seedlings. With have quite a large number with the amount of seed I have.

I have a few mature cherimoya and atemoya so I'll definitely be grafting them on eventually to speed up fruit testing. Definitely don't have enough mature trees to graft on all of them though but hopefully I'll get there soon enough :)

Have you ever grafted a young seedling to a mature tree and got a flower the same season?

24
Hey guys

I'm looking to buy some seeds from top Atemoya like Birula or Calostro as well as some good Illama and sugar apple varieties.

Anyone have any seeds and willing to ship to New Zealand?

Feel free to PM me.

Thanks Everyone
Nick

I second that.

Any update on these, and anyone selling seeds? :)
