Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Durio OXLEYANUS, Sukang 5 for $15
« on: January 11, 2019, 04:35:48 AM »
Tiny to max 1 kg durians with more sweetness packed in you would expect. Mild nutty flavor and a fresh minty aftertaste. Durio oxleyanus has for sections and maximum 1-2 pods per section. The flesh is  very creamy and as my daughter coined it its “almost too sweet” - Zoli

Stunning colors. Fiery red husk and beautiful sunshine yellow flesh. It goes shoulder to shoulder with oxleyanus for the Sweetest Durio Species title. It has a flavor of mint chocolate, and the smell... well my first impression was it smelled like glue, now that I traveled with it in the trunk and tasted it a couple of times I got more familiar with the odor. I would say it smells like sweet mint flavored glue ;)
Overall after 1-2 days of getting to know this fruit I think I start to get hooked on it. - Zoli

This species of Durio can only be found on Mount Kinabalu in Sabah. The most special thing about it is that it grows up to about 1400 meters or 4500 feet elevation. This feature could make it very desirable for zone pushers, experimenters and collectors either for the fruit or as a rootstock. The fruits are small - max 500 grams - yellow and round similar to a graveolens but have blunter spikes and the remaining parts of the flower are still attached to the ripe fruit. The flesh is white or pale yellow and is similar to, but less intense than lowianus. It has the fruitiness and the cookie-dough feeling while the flesh is thinner in size and thicker in consistency. Like most wild durians it can and should be held for a couple of days before consumption, it will get softer and more intense.

A hybrid of a pink graveolens and a yellow flesh zibethinus. The taste is like chocolate cappuccino, the flesh is colored pink with yellow spots and stripes, and its soft and creamy. The fruits weigh about a pound each.

Mangosteen grows true to type from seed, as these seeds are asexual embryos of the mother tree. Most commercially sold mangosteens come from the same variety. We found this variety in Sabah and Sarawak, Borneo the fruit was simply referred to as manggis asam (sour) by the vendors. Reading about the variety called “mesta” shows a lot of similarities, except that this one has more viable seeds than normal. 1-3 viable seeds are in a fruit.
So this is how it differs from the standard mangosteen in our experience: more oblong fruit, more round on the bottom; when cracked open the fleshy skin of the fruit is more reddish purple; the taste is more tangy, similarly sweet and more tart and also has more taste packed in, eat a normal mangosteen after this and it will have a boring taste; contains more seeds (1-3); the seeds are smoother; the fruit is less prone to have the yellow sap tainting the fruits (we haven’t found any fruits like that); the fruit has longer shelf life: becomes sweeter and less tart over time.
Overall, we like the normal mangosteen more because we can eat monomeals from it (3-4 kg per person), this variety is too tart for that, it’s more like something we would snack on or eat to refresh our senses between two durians.

After Sabah, we found bulunu again in Sarawak. This is a white mango that is a close relative of wani. This variety has yellow skin, less of the tutti-frutti and more nectar taste, it is also more sweet than the green ones we had.
This mangifera crosses naturally with wani (M. caesia)

The first batch of fruit we got from Lindsay, the second batch we bought on the streets of Limbang.

Kura kura is an unusual durian. First, it grows on the trunk of the tree. Then, its juicy, and let’s not forget the caramel-cabbage-like sweet and pungent taste. We both liked it with Nimfa and the kids said they like zibethinus more... well, more for us ;)

Local names include Pangi, Keluak. The football shaped fruit weights up to 3 kg, the woody skin, shape and structure of the fruit is very similar to Cupuassu. The flesh of the fruit is sweet, very juicy and tastes like bananas, pineapple and durian. The flesh to fruit ratio is about 50% making a decent sized fruit a good meal for a person. The seeds are flattened and feel like a stone.

Please follow the last link for more info on the poisonous attributes of the fruit. In our experience the pulp is NOT poisonous.

We love Mangiferas and to find these made us very happy and curious. Kwini is super sweet and has an amazing Jungle Mango aroma. It has a distinct strong spicy taste accompanied by a smell that will turn our head on the market and fill our room when we take them home. Unlike other wild M. species it is edible close to the skin as well. Our favorite wild Mangifera so far.

This durian is a hybrid between zibethinus and graveolens species. More creamy and more flesh than a graveolens, and very nutty and stickier compared to a zibethinus. The color of the flesh is caramel-orange, the size is about 6-800 grams per fruit.

Pulasan is a wild cousin of Rambutan. Similar but more: more juicy, sweeter and tastier🧡 Taste reminds to amazing purple grapes. One of our favorite fruits.
These fruits were grown in Costa Rica, they are between medium and large size, and fairly dark color. Excellent taste.

New batch of fruits arrived, fresh seeds available, season is closing to its end, there are only 5-6 fruits left on the trees.

This sweet tangy and juicy fruit deserves its title: The Queen of Fruits. The hard purple shell breaks up under the pressure of the palm to reveal the juicy white goodness inside.
In Thailand its common to plant it from seed. The locals like to eat it after Durian - The King of Fruits.

Thank you for the positive feedback cmichael258, polux, Vernmented. I put in so much effort into spreading these seeds and sometimes when a package is confiscated or cooked in transit or a buyer is not satisfied I get uncertain if its worth the effort. Than I get feedback from around the world that the seeds we sent are alive and loved and taken care of, and I realize that although its a hard and tricky job with a higher failure rate than what I can easily accept, the end result is a thousand times more important than the effort put in and the occasional failures.

Domnik, in one word the answer is: No.
When a buyer pays for the seeds he/she pays for my service. The buyer pays me for being on the location where the fruit is, buying or gathering the fruit, being perfectionist with my packaging, paying attention to logistics and keeping the seeds in the fruits, fresh for as long as possible before sending, sending the seeds in the post, and developing our website and apps to give the customers a good experience and reliability.
I respect the money I receive from our buyers, and do everything to honor the work my buyer put in to earn that money. When this respect is mutual and something goes wrong with the package, I offer some sort of redemption for the buyer (resend the seeds for half price, resend the seeds for postage cost only, or any other suitable way that is applicable for the situation and fits the seed availability etc.)

Soncoya is not widely cultivated in Costa Rica, the trees are planted from seed, and each give different fruit.
We describe our impression of each variety we offer:

"Luscious"
The fruit was over 1kg, compared to other soncoyas it was more juicy with more pulp, and a stronger pungent aroma. At the time of tasting, the grown-ups consequently chose this one as their preferred, while the children chose the milder one.

"Mellow"
The fruit was over 1kg, When compared to our other soncoya experiences this one had a milder taste with more juice and fibers. At the time of tasting, the children consequently chose this one as their preferred, while the grown-ups chose the more pungent one.

Soncoya
This is the annona that tries really hard to look like a durian and does a pretty decent job at it. Under the rigid exterior is a vivid bright orange pulp that smells spicy, sweet and pungent. The instant impression when you put it in your mouth is sweet soursop with orange marmalade, it could also be described as sweet orange yoghurt. It has a hint of canistel and the overall impression is something that we could describe as a very "topical" taste, like the 100% tropical fruit juice on the supermarket shelves. The fruit, when ripe has gentle tartness and intense sweetness. If you know soursop, expect something that is less juicy, less fibrous and more pulpy, with a much more exciting taste.
