Is anyone growing or fruiting Hancornia speciosa? Or growing any plants? Is the fruit worth while? Here is a photo of some seedlings that I recently sprouted. They are the 5 little plants to the front right of the photo.

Here's a chance to sample over a 100 varieties of citrus in Texas. This event is scheduled for this Saturday but due to predicted bad weather the date may change. Check the link below for updates if you are interested in attending:

https://sites.google.com/site/johnpanza/openhousenotice

Come taste the citrus, and see the 3rd largest citrus collection in the state of Texas, and the largest private collection in Texas (free).  Come see and taste the giant Panzarella cluster lemon.  See grapefruit, tangerines and oranges all growing on the same tree.  Also, check out the magazine Texas Gardener Sept./Oct. 2013 issue, pages 26-31, or Sept./Oct. 2003 issue, page 18-24, and and Nov./Dec. 2006, page 47 for more details.

Thanks,

Ed

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Feijoa
« on: November 21, 2013, 12:49:21 AM »
Pineapple Guava Feijoa sellowiana - while walking my dog I found these fruit on a landscape plant that had been delected through our summer drought. So with a little care the fruit would probably be a little larger. The fruit were harvested from the ground. The really firms ones had a minty pineapple flavor that was nice. The ones that were a little soft and starting to wrinkle had a sweeter flavor with less mint. It really seems worth growing.

My Rain Forest Plum was exposed to 26F and 28F this winter without any protection. It lost over 2/3 s of its foliage but no branch damage. Here is a few photos of it budding out today. I was concerned that the branches were damaged but I have buds on every single branch tip.
