Tropical Fruit Discussion / Greehouse vent question
« on: November 03, 2020, 09:11:44 PM »
Greenhouse is almost finished. The problem is that there is a huge amount of condensation on the roof plastic and keeps dripping on the plants. How to get rid of this? Even with the vents and door open, there is still a small amount on the roof. I understand that condensation on the greenhouse is bad for the plants as it spreads diseases. I also want to put a smaller greenhouse in the greenhouse to put my ultra tropicals which would be covered with plastic. Any suggestions on venting this? Trying to keep the smaller one at or above 60, but I understand that condensation will form...Any suggestions? Thanks.

Also have about 25 fruits for sale @2 dollars each minimum quantity is 5. These will ship priority mail medium or large boxes depending on quantity ordered
No guarantees...Buyer can look at picture and decide if he/she wants to buy them. If you have any questions feel free to ask.  Picked these at a friends place in NC. Picked 10-12-20. I don't have any use for these as I don't grow citrus that much.
Fruits have about 10-20 seeds. I will NOT ship to quarantined areas. Open to trades for tropical fruit tree seedlings.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Potted annona root rot
« on: September 16, 2020, 04:20:33 PM »
So I was going to repot my sugar apple then found out that half the roots were dead...Every winter I noticed that it died back and then regrew the next spring...Is there anything to stop this? Is my soil to wet? Even though half its roots are dead it always fruits... The root ball is about 1.5 feet diameter and half the roots were dead even though it was in a pot for 5 years...

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Chestnuts- foraged and a hard to find tree
« on: September 11, 2020, 07:41:54 PM »

So I spent several hours foraging these. They taste like jackfruit seeds but are sweeter. Large meaty nuts that are sweet. They taste perfect when roasted. They can also be boiled but I find them hard to eat that way. A quite hard to find tree as the majority was killed out by chestnut blight. There was over 8 million trees before the blight hit in the early 1900s. Most of the trees you see are the Chinese chestnut variety as these are blight resistant.
I have some seedlings for sale $10 each. They sell for over $6 a pound if you are able to find them in stores. These are squirrel resistant as they are surrounded by a ball of spikes. Will also put out pictures of the tree later.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help me choose some mango varieties!
« on: July 28, 2020, 03:59:07 PM »
I have 2 more spots in my greenhouse for in-ground trees and want to put some mangoes there. Already have mallika and ndm, but want to topwork the ndm because of anthracnose. What are some recommendations? What are some of the top varieties? Also have a question about planting mango seeds. Do I have to remove the husk before planting the seed? Or can I just throw the seed in some soil?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Wood shaving in potting mix?
« on: July 13, 2020, 06:32:45 PM »
Just got some untreated oak wood shavings and am wondering if it is any good to put in potting mix. I know oak is high in tannins. Is there any benefit of putting it in potting mix?
