Hey guys.. from all the pictures i've found on google these little trees (bushes) look quite small and seem to fruit at a very small size (like a foot or two off the ground)   who has experience with these and can comment on how big they get and planting distance between them etc. 

i'm looking to plant them alongside a south wall of my house in a flowerbed area about 5 feet wide.   thanks!

Alright fellow jackfruit loving friends.  Since living in hawaii I have probably eaten At least 50 jackfruits. And this one takes 1st place by a huge margin. Unbelievably delicious

Got this fruit from a friend growing the tree on his farm in Kona.  He claims it's by far his best tree and he calls it a "jackfruit" but I'm pretty convinced it's a "cheena".  (Jackfruit/chempedak cross)  the way the pods SO EASILY remove from the central core.  And also the skin can easily be torn back (similar to how a chempedak does)   But the SIZE... (25 pounds this one) and also the taste and texture of the fruit are amazing.  Soooo sweet and delicious and the yield was incredible.   Texture was not all gummy like a chempedak... definitely not crunchy like jackfruit tho.  Happy medium I would say

Anyways I think it's pretty obvious to say how stoked I am on this one.  I will be planting about 10 seeds personally and selling the rest.

so stoked to see this tree flowering and fruiting   will take some pictures tomorrow and post.  and continue to post as the fruits develop! I'll let you guys know if this one is worth all the hype in a couple months i guess.

Hi friends.  This ice cream bean is different from the regular types I have seen in and around big island.  Much longer and actually better tasting than others I've tried.   The other ice cream bean is more watery.  Texture of wet cotton.   This variety has more of a creamy texture.   Still cottony but better all around.

After returning home from Thailand I planted over 150 seeds of many unique and super tasty varieties of durian.  Nokkachip. Puang manee. Gangyao. Hawk talon. Nam sod. Tub Tim.  Etc etc.  I then got even more seeds from my friend Lindsay of red prawn. Black Thorn. Musang King.  D24.  And tekka. 

Now I KNOW that ideally grafting is the way to go for durian.  But in Hawaii no one has scion wood available for most of these species.  Puang manee yes.  Red prawn yes.  But most of the others I don't think so.   

Does anyone have experience growing durian from seed??!!   My theory is this... Sure if I plant a ganyao seed it might not grow up into a tree that delivers the same delicious fruit of the ganyao I ate in Thailand.   BUT... it's not like I plant the ganyao and it would be like a monthong.   It would hopefully at least be similar to its mother ganyao tree.  Right?  Or no? 

I'm 30 years old.   I have some time and patience to see this experiment through.  Haha.  Even if it's a 15 year experiment that delivers crap fruit from my seedling puang manee and ganyao and musang King trees.  Or is literally a complete waste of my time and I should just use all these seedlings as rootstocks for grafting???  Who knows the answer?  Sorry this post got a little long winded. 

Ok I need the help of you cherimoya enthusiasts out there. I stopped by my friends house today and discovered he had this cherimoya tree.  He had no idea what it was.  And he certainly didn't hand pollinate any flowers.  Yet there were 15-20 golf ball sized fruits.  Can anyone tell what kind of cherimoya this is?   Also Can Anyone explain why the fruit set without hand pollination?  I wasn't aware that the proper insects (beetle) lived in Hawaii and could do this.   Trying to figure out if this is a tree I should take Budwood from and do some grafts.

I picked up this mammoth mango at the island naturals market in Kona.  Sign just said "local mango". For reference I have a Rapoza mango (average size) next to it.   This mango weighed 3 lbs.   I initially thought it could be a Keitt from the sheer size.  But it seems like the shape is more like an R2E2.  I dunno.   Any ideas??
