Tropical Fruit Discussion / Has anyone tried Cupui cacao?
« on: September 21, 2017, 11:13:46 PM »
I've actually never tasted any raw cacao seeds or pulp before. I've seen there are differences between varieties, so I'm curious. I have a plant, but I want to know everyone's experiences with the variety (Theobroma subincanum) .

Does it produce well? How is the growth? What does it taste like?

Thanks!

Hey! My brother's birthday is in a couple days, and I'd really like to get him some seeds. His dream plant is the ice cream bean, and he also wants to grow cherimoya and some papaya. He doesn't care for the "Mexican" papaya, and prefers the smaller ones (Hawaiian or something similar).

I don't have a lot of money, so I can't pay ridiculous prices. I also usually use PayPal.

Can anyone help me out? It'd be GREATLY appreciated!  <3

All seeds are in very limited quantities. I have collected fresh;

Cape Gooseberry (physalis peruviana)
Tamarind, sour variety (Tamarindus indica)
Longan (Dimocarpus longan)

And about 10 seeds of;

Prickly Pear Cactus (known as tuna)

All seeds are gathered fresh, cape gooseberry, tuna, and tamarind are dried beforehand, while longan is shipped within moist paper towel.

Prices are below. PAY BY PAYPAL OR GOOGLE WALLET
 (PRICES UPDATED JUNE 30th)
________________
Cape gooseberry is $3 per gram (50+ seeds)
Tamarind is $2 per 10 seeds
Prickly pear is $2 for 5-10 seeds (approximately 2 orders left)
Longan is $5 per 10 seeds (approximately 2 orders remaining.)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What are your experiences with Jackfruit?
« on: June 02, 2017, 05:57:36 PM »
Hey all! What is your experience with jackfruit? I had my first one about 2 weeks ago.

It was a 9lb half for $9, which made me extremely happy considering I read that someone found them for $3-$4 a pound. I tried to pick a good one, but I'm not very experienced. It was good, though. It was sweet and crunchy, but smelled...rank. Ew.

I'm writing this on the way back from my local Asian market. I was going to try to find a whole one, but they only had halves. The price was even better this time! I got a 14 pound half for $11. I was trying to pick a more optimal one compared to my previous one.

I never understood why people said it smelled/tasted like juicy fruit gum, that is, until now. As I was trying to pick one, I smelled the most peculiar scent. I couldn't tell where it was coming from, so I bent down and sniffed the fruit. Even through the plastic wrap, it wa overwhelmingly strong. It smells so wonderful, sweet and fruity x10. I can't wait to taste it!

I really enjoyed the overall experience of jackfruit. I'd love to hear about everyone else's experiences!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Why are my jackfruit seeds cracking?
« on: May 31, 2017, 12:06:52 AM »
Sorry for my newbie topic. I have grown a lot of things, but never jackfruit.

I harvested seeds from a store bought jackfruit (9lb half for $9) and tried to read up on how to germinate them. I read that you should soak them beforehand, so I placed them in a mixture of warm water and cytokines. That was about 2 days ago. I checked on them today to either change their water or move them to a paper towel.

There were no differences, except a couple were cracking. I have 3 that are cracking in the center, no visible mold or other defects.

Is this germination, or should I toss the seeds? I thought it was signs of germination at first, but a lot of the pictures I've seen have sprouted from the top of the seeds, not the center.

Thanks for any help!
