Tropical Fruit Discussion / Yellow Dragon Fruit from seed
« on: November 18, 2017, 04:09:57 PM »
Hey there,
Last pring I sowed some Yellow Dragon Fruit seeds from this fruit

Now, even if winter is coming, they are growing well:

6 months ago they were like this

Considering how taller they have become, how much time do you think they'll take to produce fruits from this moment?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian germination help
« on: November 02, 2017, 05:17:09 PM »
Hello everyone, two weeks ago I planted a durian seed in a pot and placed it in a dark, warm place(about 73°F). The seed came from a piece of durian that i bought in an asian store(it was inside a refrigerator, not that chilly btw). Today, since I haven't seen anything coming out, I decided to extract the seed and look why is taking so long.
The seed is still firm and light coloured, however, no sprouts coming out. Any tip will be appreciated.
Do you know why is taking so long? Maybe it's because it was refrigerated or because it requires warmer temperatures? Do you think it will sprout one day?
Here you are some photos of the seed(it's a bit brown cause it has been inside the pot, not because it's rotting)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Start melon seeds in autumn
« on: August 13, 2017, 01:19:13 PM »
I have a question:
Since I will be away from home for many months during the year, I have not much time to sow my melon/watermelon/cucumber seeds in spring. So, I'm planning to plant them in september (a week before leaving) inside some little containers. I will tell my sister to give water and to bring them indoors during winter. When I will be back at the end of may, I will finally plant them in my garden and take care of them.
Do you think I will be successful doing this? Will the plants be alive?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grow durian in pots
« on: August 06, 2017, 06:21:57 AM »
I'm wondering if I can keep growing my durian seedlings in pots obtaining some fruits: I cannot plant them outside because of cold winters.
Has someone of you successfuly done this? How big has to be the pot?
No matter how inferior is the quality of fruits, I just would like to grow my own fruits.
Durians are really rare where I live and really expensive (you can arrive to spend about 60$ for 1 fruit!!!)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mangosteen seeds germination help
« on: July 23, 2017, 04:53:53 AM »
I have bought some mangosteen in an asian store and I want to try germinating seeds, but mangosteens were stored in a refrigerator when i bought them. All mangosteens are like fresh and not rotten: from this I deduce they have not been in the refrigerator for so long.
Do you think I will be successful germinating seeds? Which is the best method?
I have never had any success germinating them before btw :(

Hi,
Last night here happened a terrible hailstorm and my melon/kiwano plants in the garden have been destroyed. Only the central part of the plants remained intact. Is it possible to recover them?
Please help

Hi,
My sugar apple seed germinated well a few weeks ago, but today suddently started browning.

Probably I have given it too much water today, or moisture was too high. What do you think it is?
Is there a way to save it or it's going to die?
I sprayed some copper sulphate in order to avoid fungus infections.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Pollinating durian trees
« on: June 15, 2017, 04:00:32 PM »
Hi,
I have 3 little durian trees in pots and I cannot move them outside because of cold winters.
Can a durian tree in pot produce flowers at a certain age?
And, assuming that it produces flowers, how do i pollinate them if there are no fruit bats in my zone?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is Jackfruit tree self-pollinating?
« on: June 14, 2017, 03:41:05 AM »
Hi,
I have some little jackfruit trees in pots and, according to the seller, they should be fruiting in 4-5 years. However, I cannot move them outside because of freezing winters. Can I keep growing them in pots? And are jackfruit trees self-pollinating?

Hi,
Last month i planted some red dragon fruit seeds (Hylocereus Undatus) and some yellow dragon fruit seeds (Hylocereus Megalanthus), having a 100% germination rate after 1 week.
The only problem is that the red ones seem to have stopped growing after the first stage, since I cannot see cactus spines coming out.
On the contrary, yellow dragon fruit seedlings are growing very well and progress can be seen every day.
All seeds were 5 months old, stored all winter long in a refrigerator.
What's wrong with this? Why red dragon fruit seedlings suddently stopped growing?
Is everyone else trying to grow dragon fruit from seed and having this problem?

Here are some images of my red dragon fruit seedlings

And of my yellow ones:
