Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya tree from Greenmart nursery
« on: January 20, 2019, 12:04:16 AM »
Last year I purchased this atemoya tree from 99 Ranch Supermarket in San Diego for $60 or $70.  It was from greenmart nursery and the nursery cannot tell me anythingabout it.  They can only tell me it is a Taiwan atemoya.  The leaves looks a little different from my AP and other atemoya.  It is very sweet, chewy, and my wife said it taste like a Vietnamese mang cua.  It lacks the aromatic aromas and complex sweet/sour flavoring of a good cherimoya.  It is very sweet and chewy.  If I let this get softer then it won’t get chewy.  I will give this an 8/10 because it lacks the fragrance and complex flavoring.  Overall, it is excellent and the price is too low for an excellent atemoya.  So if you see more trees at 99 Ranch Supermarket then I highly recommend buying.

« on: September 22, 2018, 11:41:13 PM »
Why do people cover their atemoya and cherimoya with brown bag or newspaper?
Does the extra heat make it sweeter or speed up the aging process?
Or just to protect from frost or direct sun?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / AloeVera coating annona graft???
« on: August 20, 2018, 09:56:21 PM »
I know aloe vera stimulate root in cuttings, but will it increase the efficacy of your graft when applied on the cut surface of the graft?  I know grafting in the spring time is easy but i want to graft annona in the summer time and the rate of success for me is 1/3 in the summer.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Help: wax apple won’t flower
« on: June 30, 2018, 04:17:28 AM »
I need help.  For the last 5 years my 1 foot wax apple tree turn into a 6 foot monster that won’t flower.  I try trimming it, composting, starving it, cutting the bark off, and heavy fertilizer but it won’t flower.  I am about to relocate it or get a new one.  The only thing i have not done is not watering it.  I am going to try to cut back to once a week watering cycle.

Advice is greatly needed.

Last year Anthony Ortiz at Atemoya Nursery posted some pictures of atemoya he does not know the variety.  Please help me identify these atemoya.  I took some cuttings to graft onto my tree and it is pushing.

These are his pictures.  He specialized in wholesale of atemoya.  His new nursery is called atemoya tropical nursery.

Anothony said “This Atemoya splits easily, grows really fast, the inside of the fruit splits into sections like a sugar apple, the meat is not as chewy and firm like African Pride. The flavor is not very good similar to lisa Atemoya”

I saw the tree and it is near a pond so i think the lack of flavor is due to too much water.

I think it can be paxton’s Prolific?  What do u think it is?

I am looking for a white ilama plant in San Diego.
