Can anyone help ID this vine. It's used in Chinese Cuisine blended and added to rice flour and made into balls then steamed. My grandma called it "Black Yuan"?

I have one barbados cherry and two pomegranate trees that are leaners. Would propping them up with stakes and reducing/limiting water force them to establish a stronger root system so they can support themselves eventually?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sugarcane Taste Problems
« on: August 30, 2018, 10:45:29 PM »
Hi,

This is my sugarcanes second year in ground. Last year the juice from the canes were sweet, but now they are just tasteless(watery). Could this be due to too much watering? I've set-up an irrigation system this year and they get watered twice a week. The canes are very large almost 12ft tall and thick.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Starfruit thinning?
« on: August 26, 2018, 03:23:45 AM »
Hi,

This will be my Kari starfruit tree first time fruiting with minimum of 100+ fruit. I am thinking it'll be best to thin out some of the fruit allowing others to grow to their potential and reduce stress onto tree. What are you opinions? Tree is about 5' and diameter of about 6/8 - 7/8''

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Barbados Cherry
« on: July 28, 2018, 01:53:33 PM »
Hi,

I have a Barbados cherry tree that is for the third time this year flowering. The first time I only received around 10 cherries and the second time nothing. I was wondering how could I increase the amount of fruit set? Is there a method of hand pollination I can perform?

Thanks.

« on: June 18, 2018, 09:10:51 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering since DF are cactus/succulent plants, would 100+'' of rainfall in Northern Big Island Hawaii be too much for plant to handle?

« on: May 29, 2018, 12:09:00 AM »
Hi,

Was wondering whats a good quality water filter hose attachment for using on avocados? My city puts I believe both chlorine and chloramine into the water to kill bacteria from forming also the water is semi-saline.

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Southern CA Alkaline Soil & Jaboticabas
« on: April 22, 2018, 04:42:29 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering what are your experience growing jabaoticabas in southern CA fairly alkaline soils. Do you try acidifying your soils since they prefer a pH range of 5.5-6.5 and not knowing exactly my soil pH since I haven't got it tested, my plants look yellow and has slow growth even when I fertilize and is kept moist.

If you do try acidifying your soil, how do you go about it? Sulfur?

Thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jaboticaba or Gurimichama?
« on: February 12, 2018, 03:19:58 AM »
Hi,

Was interested in purchasing a red jaboticaba or a gurimichama, I already have one jaboticaba in the ground in SoCal. Between the two, which would you choose based off years to fruit, tree fruiting life, and taste.

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is 1 jaboticaba enough?
« on: February 11, 2018, 02:15:12 AM »
I live in southern California and currently only have 1 jaboticaba. Was considering another, or do you think one is enough for a good yield or would two be best? For home use, not for selling. Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango Panicle
« on: January 14, 2018, 09:30:35 PM »
Hi,
I live in Southern CA where I have two mango trees, Carrie and Nam Doc Mai that are about 3ft tall. I was wondering that once the panicles fall off the tree, will new lateral branches grow from where the panicles originated from? I ask this because I think I pruned at the wrong time year and instead of new lateral branches forming it produced flowers/panicles.
Thanks a lot!
