Tropical Fruit Discussion / Cacao seeds
« on: January 29, 2019, 09:30:13 AM »
I have grown cacao seeds multiple times before.
I thought i wanted to try again and bought myself a pod.
I planted the seeds in 3 different ways and they all died.
The way they die starts with the root growing nicely and white.
At around 0,5 inches out the root just turns brown, mushy and dies.
This happened with all planting methods including paper towel.

I bought another pod.
Same thing happened.

Is this due to cold damage in transit?
Thatís what i suspect.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / !!HELP!!
« on: November 12, 2018, 09:49:50 AM »
I came home today and suddenly saw two of my cacao seedlings looking like this

My cacao seedlings are very close and I am so scared! Could they have infected others? One of them has most of it leaves fine but they are droopy. The other had all of it's leaves ruined except for one.

I had something similar happening to my miracle fruit seedlings and they suddenly (slowly) defoliated.
My older MF plants did not have any problems with this.

Damn i have so many seedlings at risk! What can i do?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Miracle fruit air layer
« on: October 26, 2018, 10:10:58 AM »
Hey everyone! I started a Miralce fruit air layer a couple of months ago. The layer was for an experiment with small air layers. I opened it today and noticed white root-like clumps around the layer. I suppose they are root buds. I have to get this layer potted soon though! I was wondering if i could add willow water or i could pot it up like a cutting but with a head-start? The branch is about 4-5 mm thick with 12 leaves and it is 12 cm long (with leaves going further!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Miracle fruit grafting?
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:54:26 AM »
I have been thinking about grafting S. Dulcificum on S. Subcordatum. The growth habit of S. Subcordatum seems to be more like a small tree compared to a shrub. Does anyone know if this is possible? Will it produce fruit?

Iím looking forward to experimenting with these. I can pay with paypal.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Broken taproot: better roots
« on: September 25, 2018, 07:22:55 AM »
I have been growing some cacao seeds lately and when transplanting i accidentally broke the taproots of 2 seeds. The taproots where about 2,5 cm or 1 inch and i broke about 0,3 inch off. I planted the seeds anyways hoping for the best. Those two emerged first and looked healthy.

A week later when all had emerged i inspected the roots. To my suprise the two seeds i broke had the most healthy and vigorous root system of all of them. The taproot did not go deeper than the point it broke but was shooting more taproot-ish roots out. Will these 2 seedlings be faster growing than the others? Are they going to be impaired when they grow bigger? I want your opinion because i have never seen anything like this.

Sorry for bad punctuation. I am currently writing this on my phone in a moving train.
