Had 2 Marlys mangos this week. Found them to be very good-excellent. Like an improved Bailey's Marvel (which I've never much cared for; the one tree that I had them from, they had a slight Aspartame aftertaste to them).  Bought them at Excaliburs

Congratulations on your nice tree! I wouldn't prune a thing; let it grow. It needs the leaves for energy collection.

Mango season was very sparse for our family this year. Of the ones we got from our trees, the Edward and Maha Chanoks were outstanding. Two of the finest I have ever eaten. I also had some Florigons, some Kents, some Mallikas (superb when perfectly ripe), and 1 Sweet Tart (the first one a smallish tree has ever produced). The ST was lackluster, but this is likely due to it being the first fruit.

3 of the best mangos I've ever eaten have been an Edwards, Maha Chanok and a Mallika (perfectly ripened Mallika...which is hard to obtain it seems).

I have a never ending battle with scale (Banana and Glover scale) heavily infesting my lychees and longans. My oil applications and Malathion applications have been futile. I did have success this year using (per gallon): 1 cup of rubbing alcohol, 2 tablespoons baby shampoo and 2 tablespoons vegetable/olive oil. I treated 1 week apart and heavily sprayed the underside of the leaves. It didn't kill all of them but it knocked them way back.

I had someone steal 3-4 Cushman mangos off a tree I planted next to a building I own. It has a surveillance system and I saw on the DVR that is was a homeless guy picking them; I wasn't too irked since I figured he needed the food...it was a shame that he picked them 3 weeks early and they probably never ripened properly.

 However, people that are not homeless and steal fruit are THIEVES, period. Stealing is stealing, no matter what it is. The older I get the more I realize that there is a large percentage of our population with a serious lack of morals, scruples, and manners.

A good Edward is unbeatable imo. 

The Lancetilla tree I had was DEFINITELY not a slow or compact grower. It was so vigorous with so few fruits that it was cut down to make way for a Maha Chanok tree. I personally like the Graham but I am in the minority in my family. It does not dehydrate well (taste-wise). Glenns are good if they are not watered-down (some of mine tend to be) but they dehydrate well. The Irwins I've had are nothing special. Quite forgettable.  A couple of other choices for small-medium in tree size would be Fairchild, Julie and Carrie. Rosigold is probably a good bet too for taste and tree-size.

Other varieties other than Young/Tebow:  Dot, Cushman, Maha Chanok for starters. Others might recommend Lemon Zest too but I have yet to try it. Good luck with your tree.

SWRancher, I read on another thread that you thought your Alano was more cold tolerant. Do you have other varieties too? BTW, your thread about your Alano tree inspired me to put one in at my mom's house (further south and much warmer than my place). I'm hoping it bears fruit soon!!
