Ordered this from tropicaltreasure-us(ebay) a couple of months, finally growing leaves a few weeks ago, but more I look at it, don't think the shape of leaves look like sugar apple tree's leaves...  your take?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Container Growing Dwarf Mango's
« on: April 03, 2017, 11:14:53 AM »
I have been growing the following mango trees in containers since the end of 2015:
1. Sweet Tart is growing in a 25 gal. container and is now setting fruit.
2. Coconut Cream is growing in a 45 gal. container which I pugged in July 2016.
3. Mallika is growing in a 25 gal. container is blooming presently.
4. Fruit Punch is growing in a 7 gal. container and is going to be stepped up to a 15 gal. this week.
5. Mahachanok is growing in a 45 gal. container is blooming and setting fruit presently.
6. Pickering is growing in a 25 gal. container is blooming and setting fruit presently.

The last four varieties are Honey Kiss, Cotton Candy, Kathy, and Phoenix are all growing in 3 gal containers.

nice trees.  If you're in FL, why not put them in the ground?  Not like you can move them now if there's any freeze in the winter....

Pickering pushing buds in 60gal fabric pot.

You sure thats a 60 gal?

I'm actually not sure and it looks a lot smaller in the picture.  It may be 60 divided by 2 :)

more like 15 gallon, 25 the most.

My Pickering in a 20gal rootmaker pot is blooming like crazy again, and it still has three golfball sized mangos from a little earlier in the season developing. Nice and pinkish purple. Its currently my best performer out of the 4 I have, but it had an unfair advantage of not getting raided by deer or those damn weevils that destroyed the tree or all the blooms(in that order). I hear Pickerings aren't the best tasting compared to some others, but the taste is very subjective, but it seems to be a good all round general grower and producer that the weevils that attacked mine simply ignored.

so how you like the taste of your pickering then?

« on: March 17, 2017, 05:16:22 PM »
I have a fairly matured mango tree(either kent or glenn), bout 5 years old with the trunk thickness about 1.5 inches.  It's planted in a 15 gallon pot and overall height is around 5 ft.   Problem is it just wont fruit.  It'll bloom flowers and have a few baby fruits but they all drop when they're pea size....  I water and fertilize regularly, any idea??

Where else you can order tropical fruit trees that ship besides toptropical.com?    Seem like Pine island mainly carry mango trees?   Hoping to get some guava and sugar apple trees.

I usually buy my mangoes at the supermarkets unfortunately... Last time i saw Keitt was 2, 3 weeks ago.  I've been storing a couple in the fridge.... any idea how long i should keep them there without going bad?  Was hoping to save them til next month:)
All the markets now only carry Tommy Atkins from Brazil, ewww...

generally, do you experience fruit drop more with potted mango trees than in the ground ones?

20
I just ordered a sugar apple tree a couple of days ago.  I swear when I ordered it, it said in a 3 gallon pot, but today it's changed to 1 gallon pot, but the price is the same...  I know I'm getting old but come on my memory can't be that bad.

any recent experiences with Top Tropicals?

just found some Keitt mangos in one of my local markets, surprisingly late this time of year....  $3 each but pretty good size... hope that's not a rip off?

24
most asian markets where i live have been carrying boxes of kent, they're just as sweet and tasty as ataulfo as far as commercial mango variety, not to mention much bigger.

25
I think potted mango trees usually ended up with less mature fruit than planted ones
