My experience with these is that you have most success when you graft in the spring when the plants come out from their dormancy.
. What varieties are you grafting???? Mike

Avoman in OZ Reed is used commercially as a rootstock & nurseries pay Aus $1 per seed...... With a good potting mix they can be grafted at appox 12 inches in height..... Used far more than Zutano & Bacon..... Mike

Most  of our Commercial mangoes are crosses with Kensington Pride....R2E2 KP & Kent....Caipyso KP & Sensation....newer varieties NMBP 4069 KP & Van Dyke....NMBP 1201 KP & Irwin.....NMBP 1243 KP & Irwin...... others include Lady Jane & Lady Grace both R2E2 & Irwin .......  The mango that you will be eating from Gelson's would have been picked green  & not ripened on the tree...... In the case of R2E2 they are 10 times better if tree ripened ......I would love to hear from any one that get get some to try or perhaps Simon  or someone could tell us what the Brix reading is on these mangoes....... Mike

Just a further word re vermiculite or like products..... Customs usually don't know what they are & if in doubt destroy or think it is soil & destroy better to be placed in a moist paper towel inside a zip lock bag....... Mike

Jackfruit Jo .... My first attempt to bring Mango seeds into OZ failed due to the fact that the seeds were still in the fruit husk..... OZ customs destroyed .......If you got these seeds from say USA & right on Christmas period you may have a chance with Customs not checking as closely due to volume being received at that time......

In OZ the Queensland Govt. have been doing work on a Small Tree High Productivity Initiative..... On 3 blocks with the same 3 mango varieties they have planed high density 1250 trees per hectare 416 treesper hectare medium & small at 416 trees per hectare..... Project commenced in 2013....After 4 years the fruit picked yields were High 16 tons Medium 8.6 tons & small 4.7 tons......They also have been doing a project with espalier on trellis with an high density best yield of 46.9 tons per hectare after 5 years...... Still a way to go but looks like high density maybe the way of the future........ Mike

Like all mangoes the taste of a store brought to a tree ripened are wildly different...... R2E2 are a good tasting mango if not picked early as the ones in the stores are..... Honey Gold originated at Fitzroy Nursery in Rockhampton Queensland Australia from a batch of Kensington Pride seedlings......So whilst it doesn't have the colour of a Kensington Pride it does have some of its traits.....Both are poly. Honey Gold is under PBR (Plant Breeders Rights).......Nayelie321 if you don't have any luck with the R2E2 seeds & you can graft send me a PM..............Mike
