Do your vexator have an unpleasant astringency to them?

Should not be called a variety but a 'seedling selection' as in 'Sheehan seedling selection'. There are now dozens of wrongly named vars. that in fact are 'only' seedling selections. This problem is rampant with black saps, white saps, abius, ad nauseum. To memory successful graft with cherimoya. If reticulate grows strong for you, go there. Try others like scleroderma

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pouteria domingensis is it a species?
« on: January 11, 2017, 08:04:02 PM »
Back in 1977, P. doming. came to the attention of the Rare Fruit Council Int @ Miami. To, recall, it was mentioned on the flp of the yearly publication with members name. If recall true, has to be either 77 or 78edition. What came out of the wash then was there was a single specimen @ David Fairchild's  private home garden. I think that was the location. Somebody's famous home garden. Back then we thought it separate species. I never saw tree or fruit.  to be cont.

Sylvatica is very small and seedy. Perhaps useful as a rootstock. Last trip a year ago to Sarawak Rollinia in small amounts in market. My assumption is an Ozzie brought over seed in the 80's. Same with Abiu that I found @ Kuching market

I do believe the term 'wani' should be applied only to Bali caesia as distinct from using a local common name universally in no small part bec the caesia of Bali is considered to be a far superior type. Think I am regurgitating Kostermann.

Athertonia is bountiful here inclding moderate self-seeding. Consiering the Atherton Tablelands are homoclime exactamundo to here no surprise it does so wll.

Hawaiians use Aleurites. My understanding has always been one uses it always cooked and eaten sparingly.

here in Oz we found MOST cvs are pollen sterile so yours is good for pollination

Boron deficiency shows as prolific non-raised scabrous markings instead of healthy  skin

go here scroll down picture of casimiroa has mild symptoms

Think I am in this thread  but I ain't gonna scroll thru. I grow at least 16 cvs:McDill, Vista, Lemon GOld, Chestnut, Rainbow, can't remember them all now..vernon,  supposed suebelle, Here in the wet warm subtropics Blumenthal and Denzler are by far the best. Scions prepared properly travel well.  That bitter aftertaste common here with quite a few vars. Many pollen sterile and need cv with good pollen.

C. tetrameria highly rechermended. Unique taste...completely different to a white but they cross pollinate and I have some hybrids that fruit prolifically but not worth propagating. C. tetra. One seeded, large fruit, great seed to flesh ratio.

Paul (?) Soderholm  former USDA Miami raved about it. Sent me seed. Two trees still more like shrubs at least 30years from seed. SLOW growing. I get flowers no fruit set

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lecythis sp

Marula was over-exploited in SA as the timber makes the best toilet seats. I am glad I have bearing seedlings.... surprised I egt fruit considering the wetness here. Very poor flesh to seed ratio.. slighly better than Harpephyllum caffrum If you enjoy sucking a Kaffir Plum you'll relish marula. There is a special tool natives use /used to remove kernel.

Maybe Lecythis is L. minor. No idea why its the 'minor'. Not plant a new Lecythis sp... can not comprehend. Not plant a cola nut in a place where it will grow... can not comprehend.

Burning sulphur in the hot house as a fumigant resulting in a thick atmosphere of sulphuric acid that burnt the bejoobies out of all the plants.

One of the usda trees was productiv with large oblate fruit. There and here F1 seedlings produce heavy crops of fruit that are often 15 cm across and oblate.

How big is Mossmann?

Black sap seedling selections are a prime example of people rushing out and stating I have a new black sap variety because..... All these so called Australian named Black Saps were from a handfull of seedlings. I am growing about 40 mature black saps and have been fruiting them as long as anybody. I have seen nothing on my place or Australia that warrants varietal status. None have been superior to the seed I collected from a large oblate prolific black sap @ USDA Miami / Coral Gables. Seedlings I grew, some are as good as parent. I suspect other seedlings from this import are now some of the named variities. Pisses me off.
