I've heard of this before actually. I'm curious, what do you eat it with? Is it more sweet or savory?

Does it taste different than the red ilama? Which one is better?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best way to control whitefly population
« on: July 07, 2018, 03:13:12 AM »
Seriously, these things are kicking my butt this summer. I try to stay organic with neem since I have lots of bees. Yet I spray and I spray I don't see their populations affected at all. I put up yellow sticky traps and while they worked, I kept getting those brown anole lizards stuck to them. There was always one or two poor lizards stuck in the morning that I'd have to unstick with olive oil. I don't put them up anymore.

Can someone give me advice on how to eradicate or maybe at least control whitefly successfully? I'd like to avoid pesticides but I'll use a mild one if nothing else works.

Quite unfortunate too since theyíre pretty cool looking with the black and orange. I find them every once in a while on my custard apple and toss em on the concrete for the birds.

Looks like a fruit piercing moth caterpillar from the genus gonodonta. Get rid of it. They can damage nearby fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: rarest papaya on earth. palanda papaya

I came across this thread while doing some research. I was wondering how everyoneís seedlings were doing. I got a packet of seeds from baker creek and started them back in may. Only one seedling made it and is about a foot tall and looking good. Seeing as I need male and female, I bought more seeds from TWF but Iím having trouble with getting them to germinate.

Hello! My name is Jess. I live in Miami (zone 10b). I donít have many hobbies besides gardening. Iíve only been growing tropical fruit for about two years now. Itís gone quite smoothly. Things Iím growing right now are:
Custard apple
Meyer lemon
Palandas papaya

Im hoping to add more as time goes by although I donít have much space as it is. Despite the obvious lack of space I continue to buy seeds  ;D itís nice to meet you all!
