Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fruit ID?
« on: September 20, 2018, 10:37:03 PM »
My friend in Long Beach, California really wants to know what fruit this is. Can anyone tell just from this photo? He says its flesh is green, it has just one seed, and it tastes somewhat apple-like.

Did my purple yam post start you down this road? :)

(I meant to reply in another thread.)

Recently bought a lot of cassava on sale that I'm going to use for other projects, but I'm wondering if a plant can be coaxed out of one of them. Everything I've found online talks about growing from stem cuttings.

Hi all,

I'd like some cuttings of black pepper if anyone has any to spare. I have a number of excess cacti and succulent cuttings I could trade: Pereskiopsis, Stapelia gigantea, Pereskia bleo, Hatiora salicornioides, and Rhipsalidopsis (Easter cactus).

edit: You can email me at chirpis7 at gmail dot com  :)

Thanks!

I grew it last year in a large container here in Atlanta. It seemed to be doing great on top, but at the end of the season I dug it out, and there were no new tubers, and all the original tubers had rotted.

I have some tubers coming in the mail now, and I hope to do better this year. Do you think it did poorly because it was in a container? Since the tubers rotted, I also wonder if maybe it was watered too much. I mostly grow succulents, so I'm not used to watering plants with "normal" water needs. Maybe I overdid it.

If anyone else has tried growing these and has any advice, I'd really appreciate it.
