Brad, Thanks for the link. I was also looking at the 10' version. Tractor supply co has them too. My soil is softer than yours and subject to flooding every few years. I'm considering sinking 3' on a 7' fence rather than 2' on a 6' fence.

Currently clearing for a fence myself. Was thinking 6' but maybe I'll go 7' after reading this. I plan to put individual protection around some trees in the form of wire or old stove pipes. Toying with installing a couple cheap small greenhouses or pvc structures around some too.

Will be repairing the fence to 5.5' mesh and a couple strands of barbed wire but the allee trees will likely be outside the fence. Yes on neighbors but not enough to keep deer away, which I've seen on the property. So maybe not fruit then, at least not dwarf.

Got a new place to plant! Among other things, looking for ideas on trees to line a long and wide driveway in zone 9a. Fruit, nut or other useful. Neighbor says the coldest she's ever seen is 25F. Things I'm considering: chestnut, pistachio, cork oak, cherry, crabapple, carob, jacaranda, sapodilla, cornus kousa...

desertdreamer, when you say you have a male black beauty, do you mean a male progeny of a black beauty?

I rewatched that piece and he doesn't mention the flowers, which are quite different in blueberry.

Check out this video around 22:30. Shows a 20' tall tree blueberry. Is it really a blueberry? Viking guy posted about something similar ages ago but I didn't imagine the trunk being so robust.

Southern California folks interested in mangoes might want to check out Exotica in Vista. Looked to me like he has over 1000 plants now. He's expanding into the back lot and has a couple greenhouses full of mango too. I didn't even try to read all the tags but it has to be many tens of different varieties. Id guess mostly from Florida but a few from california. Very expensive.

You can get locally grown on probably better rootstocks. Exotica had 40+ last few times I visited. Not yet the best varieties though.  And yes they are expensive. Comparable with Florida.

Consistent with what I've read about nitogen fixing bacteria. Species are found in soil samples in areas where their presumed host species (even genuses) have never grown. The bugs are probably there already.

I've always understood that nitogen fixers trap their nitogen and it's not released until you chop and drop.

Has anyone died or gotten sick?

I have yet to see credible evidence that glyphosate harms people.

This has probably been covered but didn't see it in a quick search.

What are the top mangoes that taste great even when not ripe?

He asked me to post. The "e-mail me my password" doesn't seem to be working for him either. Anyone know how to fix it?
