Tropical Fruit Discussion / Crazy About Coconuts
« on: April 14, 2012, 02:14:58 PM »
What's the scoop on growing coconuts in South Florida? What are the best varieties as far as water quality and taste? Also from doing some research I found out that the Fiji Dwarf variety seems to be the most resistant to Lethal Yellowing. Is anyone out there growing this variety if so how is it and where can I get one?
Thanks

That's correct. New one is in the same spot now.

Still haven't figured out how to post pics from my iPad maybe Sleep can post it for me. I planted the new CC today and what was left of the old one I put in the7 gal pot to see what  happens. if I get seedling growth then maybe I can graft something on it.

Walked outside today to find my Coconut cream snapped cleanly on the graft line lying on the ground. Was heart broken. Made the call to Jeff and an hour later was on my way home with a Nice 7 gal CC a Sunrise for My buddy sleep and a fairchild #2 Canistel that is about 15 inches tall and already flowering. The wind was howling today in Kendall hopefully this is the end of it. Thanks Jeff!

My Inlaws Edward has dimples all over as well and in prior years it's been the same most have smoothed out but some have stayed with the dimples.

I have 18 seedling Bangkok Lemons that I have grown out in 1 gal containers. I'm planning on just repotting them to a larger container when they outgrow the 1 gal. I'm actually givin them away to friends and family so hopefully won't have to buy a bunch of larger containers. Best thing would be to plant in ground after they outgrow the 1 gal or I would probably go from 1 gal to about a 10 gal if you want to keep them in a container.

The tree is grafted however I have not tasted the fruit just a brief description from fairchild is all I know about it. If anyone knows anything else it would be great. If not I'll keep you all posted.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sweet Fairchild Jackfruit

Anyone currently growing a Sweet Fairchild Jackfruit or know anything about this cultivar. Several months ago I picked one up from Jeff but haven't heard or been able to find much info on it. I'm running out of room and have BK Lemon Seedlings don't know if I should leave the SFairchild where it is or replace it with a BK lemon seedling. Any thoughts?

Wow! Welcome John you have a beautiful place there. Talk about living off the land you can have a great setup there. How's the fishing? Fish for dinner and Mangos for desert life doesn't get any better.

Thanks but I'll pass lol. My hedges are Surinam cherries but I left those out. If you want an Angie just wait for the mango festival at fairchild that's where I got mine. You can have a BK Lemon jackfruit seedling if you don't mind the drive south.
