looks like lychee is pruned in a similar way after or during harvest no? What other tree types does this work well on?

Awesome greenhouse, amazing variety. This would be a dream of mine as well, I just need to find a good piece of land with a heated spring!

How do you keep so many different species all so close to each other? How do the logistics like watering, fertilizing etc work? Must be fairly automated if you are in China :)

Again, great job.

Jaboticaba seems interesting, but what is the real difference between fruit quality of that and a muscadine grape? I know totally different in tree vs vine, but without having tasted it, hard to know.

Alano Sapodilla or Suebelle White Sapote I was considering as I've heard both are prolific and have long fruiting seasons. Not sure if this is really true... do they fruit year round? Or does anyone know when would be the expected season for Texas?

Correct, I'm nearby Dallas. I'm in an apartment for the next 6mo or so. After that planting in the ground may be a possibility.

Citrus is easy to find year-round in the stores here locally grown in TX, so I'm trying to find something less available. Dragonfruit is an interesting recommendation, but I was under the impression that they needed a lot of space in a pot, but I really don't know.

Thanks for the pickering suggestion, what is their fruiting season? It's hard to tell even researching as much as I can the fruits that have longer fruiting seasons, or fruit in the late fall or early spring. I'm planning to bring my plants inside and provide artificial light supplement if needed to keep them going or fruiting.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / New Tree Suggestions to extend season
« on: June 11, 2013, 01:40:18 AM »
Hi all,

New here, but have just bought a few trees. My largest are:
Lychee (Mauritius)
Longan (kohala)
Atemoya (geffner)
Mango ( nam doc mai)

I also have smaller:
Strawberry guava
Surinam cherry
Barbados cherry

Looking for a couple more prolific trees to extend my fresh fruit season. Maybe persimmon, white sapote, or sapodilla? I like most fruits, but trying to concentrate on growing the hard to find types locally. All my trees are in pots and will come inside during the winter months. Thanks for any help!
