I had varmints attack my ripening station 2 nights in a row, removed all the mangoes and put out Tomcat rat poison for 2 nights, plus I baited 3 stations in the yard, I knocked back the population as my ripening station has been critter free for 4 weeks and counting.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Hatcher mango, when to pick
« on: August 01, 2016, 01:06:30 PM »
It seems my overpriced (before I knew any better:-[ )Hatcher mango has an off taste. It is nowhere near the flavor of the Hatcher Mango Hill fruit that I ate. It has given fruit for about 4 to 5 years. Every time I slice into one, I feel like I was had.
When is the best time to pick? ripening on the tree, just before they drop doesn't help.

55
I tend to think the early fruit off a tree is not the best tasting.

56
I am with Jeff. 5-8 pound gain

57
dozens of times, but I use the 1 inch rule. Must have enough fruit to leave a generous slice in between.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / When to pick a mango.

I have a few new mangoes producing fruit this year for the first time. I realize Carrie must be picked early and ripen off the tree.
What other mangoes are in the same class that should be picked and ripened on the shelf?

Thanks Har and Jeff. I will get to it.
Do you make a cocktail or spray separate?

I will be picking the last of Mauritius, maybe 15 pounds left on the tree. I have removed 25 pounds already. The squirrels ruined about 10-15 pounds (hav-a-heart set).

the above link is exactly the reason why my Lemon Merengue did not flower this year. It is under attack. The last photo shows what I have.
Any new cures out there.

Benders, I can't beat the location, variety of trees and fresh fruit.

My pool as a gauge says we had about 2-3 inches in West Davie. I can only wonder if the fruit will split.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best cherry for south Florida
« on: April 25, 2016, 05:50:52 AM »
gruminchama is a nice looking tree or tall bush, it has a very short season,

What's very short exactly? My tree produced just two first fruits and I really liked it. Pretty close flavor vice to northern cherry. In fact liked it so much that I'm raising those seed for few more trees to plant. But if the season is only like a week, I should reconsider.

the fruiting period is about 2 weeks, maybe 10 days
