thanks for the info Simon!

yes I think they can handle full sun..mine are in full sun too.

I notice some have red coloration on the leaves, and some do not.

Even the mother plants I have, one is reddish, one is not.

I have a fruit set on the mother plant...so I will be sure to keep the forum posted as it progresses.

I don't see pineapples on your website. Do you have a complete list of what you sell?

I'm jealous! I've had a grafted red jaboticaba in the ground for three years that still hasn't flowered.

Feed them with good fertilizer and water them twice a day

Do they require special fertilizer?

30
Hybrid Jaboticaba start flowering. Plant from seed in year 2013. Thanks to Oscar Jaitt of fruitlover and Mike T.

Is this the first time flowering? If so I have 4 years of waiting. 😓

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Help! Citrus greening, now what?
« on: June 25, 2017, 03:14:12 PM »

the bug that carries it is a "Asian Citrus Psyllid"

and just because you have the psilid, doesnt mean you have greening.
i had the bug, but, didnt have greening... in Fla you are probably more likely to get it.

Anything we can do to keep them away from getting on the trees?

Any natural predators? I've heard wasps.

Looking good

It will help them establish. I would just ensure it is not constantly wet. Let the soil dry between watering.

I would like to try strawberries, where should I begin?

36
Not sure why all the hate on Carrie's, great flavor, no fiber. They are one of my favorites, have one in my yard.

37
I must have not found a good one. My experience wasn't good with Jackfruit, tasted pretty nasty IMO. I'll have to try again.

Although not in a fruit tree, this is in a Christmas Palm.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / 2017 summer fruit tree update
« on: May 20, 2017, 08:50:45 AM »
I'm currently growing the following trees in Port St Lucie, FL. If no variety or cultivator it's unknown to me
papaya, bananas, pineapple, Tropic Beauty peach, red hybrid Jabotacaba, Alana Sapodilla, 4 mangoes Kent-Carrie-Southern Blush, avocado, Inga aka Ice Cream Bean, strawberry tree, raspberries, honey murcot tangerine, loquat, coffee bean, citrus cocktail-Persian lime-Myers lemon-Thompson grapefruit grafted on same tree, Barbados cherry, surinam cherry, sweet heat lychee, star fruit, dragon fruit, valencia orange, blueberry bush.

I'm thinking of adding a melon garden next spring.

What else should I add?

What are you growing?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Watering mango trees
« on: May 16, 2017, 10:12:42 PM »
yup for growth phases pre flower and post fruiting. Summer during fruiting not much need for watering with the rains. Man the pump is so on the opposite side of the property lol guess I have a few months to dig before the watering commences lol But makes sense to have it on separate control for the bubbler drip.

You could just add screw bubblers, keep them closed when you don't want to water.

I've recently switch to the other side of this fence. I had some sod put down and have been using the irrigation system watering daily to help the grass root in. I recently had this Southern Blush split on the tree. Doing a bit of research I feel it might be to over watering. I think mangos can go a while without excess watering. I do know the more water and wet during fruit set will cause "soggy" and "extra wet" flesh.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Tropic Beauty Peaches almost ready?
« on: April 26, 2017, 07:45:38 PM »
I recently got a Tropic Beauty, it had a few nice peaches on it, here they are. I heard around May harvest time for them. Is this accurate? How do they look?

Did you let the tree hold fruit last year?

I have a similar situation with one of my mango trees. I let a small tree, about 3 1/2' tall hold 2 fruit last year. Unfortunately this year the tree has done almost nothing, no flush, no flower bloom. Guessing because I did not follow the "don't let young mango trees hold fruit."

My 3 larger trees all have fruit that is almost full size along with tons of gape/golf ball sized fruit.

Does anyone here grow melons in south FL?

46
What varieties should I look for?

There are some low chill blueberries that would work (they can take partial shade).

47
I have an area that is shaded from some surrounding pine trees. What tropical fruit trees would do well in this area? Grass grows well there and is irrigated.

48
I'm open to any and all fruit.

Great thread! How about non-tropicals?

Alano is super productive,  with excellent taste and texture and a long fruiting season.   Morena is another excellent fruit, larger in size than Alano but shorter season.

Makok is too small of a fruit with edible flesh ratio on the lower side and due to its smaller size, can be a pain in the butt to eat ( yes, i know the skin is edible but i have no interest in eating sapodilla skin).

Sounds like Alano is your choice, thanks Rob

Sweet, I already have a Carambola between the pines and Mangoes
