Tropical Fruit Discussion / Sapodilla recommendation South Florida

I'm looking to add a Sapodilla. I'm looking at some of these and looking for your thoughts.

Thanks Dan, I actually live a little east of you off Savona. I have 4 mangoe trees currently, a Carrie, Southern Blush, and 2 Kents. They are not too shaded from the pines except in the am. I'm looking to expand to other trees. I also have a small Ava ad and a couple bananas. I do have an Inga, Tropic Beauty peach, and a Hybrid Red Jabotacaba in pots I'm ready to plant. Trying to find out if any of those or need to go in a different direction for that area.

I have an area that is shaded from some surrounding pine trees. What tropical fruit trees would do well in this area? Grass grows well there and is irrigated.

I have been emailing Flying Fox Fruits but he has not not replied. I want to buy a jaboticaba. Is there another good source?

I don't think they ship outside of FL.

I bet this is the only photo on Google that shows the Blue, yellow, and red jabos together (although they're runts, they still taste amazing when eaten all at once!)

Do you pop them like skittles?

Why is it always the dealers who set up these "recovery" programs?

Well I'm kinda new growing my own fruit. Over the past weekend in search of an Inga tree I stumbled upon 2 fruits that I have never eaten before and I'm immediately hooked. Sapodilla and Jabotacaba, I purchased a small black Jabo tree. I can already start to see myself becoming obsessed with acquiring more and more varieties to grow myself and just to eat. As I walked the farm the "dealer" I mean farmer offered samples. He mentioned it was to promote the sale of the trees.

All makes sense now.

Welcome me to the club. But upon welcoming me to your JA club just know, I'm Not going to be a traditional anonymous groupee to help you stop your addition but just seek your information and "suppliers" to better help my addition grow.

Anyone have a link of that video that used to be pinned at the top of the forum page. I recall watching it back in Jan/Feb. They found some cool fruit including Inga in the Amazon.

Alex,

Anything for sale yet?

60
Anyone have Makok Sapodilla for sale? I am in PSL on the Treasure Coast. I frequently travel to mid Palm Beach County.

Thanks Brian

Are they for sale yet?

Same with my Southern Blush, Kent, and Carrie. Fruit and blooms

63
Your trees look fine, Carrie is my favorite.

Yeah it's just a stinkhorn mushroom that looks like an alien egg filled with crap. They smell truly awful too, once they warm up in the Sun!

Found some info on them. Guess they aren't harmful so I'll leave them be.

I've also recently just planed one.

Well this may suck. I planted a Lychee last year.  :'(
It seems like more and more people are getting rid of theirs.

Why is this?

Interesting. I have noted a change in the past 10 years. Probably bad news for lychees in this area.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Can I grow Inga Edulis in South Florida
« on: January 28, 2017, 05:03:26 PM »
I was wondering if anyone successfully grows Inga here in FL? I can't seem to find too much info on it. If you have success stories or more info on Inga please share.

70
Rob,

Is this normal for all three of these varieties to be blooming and setting this early in the year?

71
Hello,

So I planted these 3 decant sized trees last summer. I thought I was getting 3 different seasons of mangoes to have mangoes all summer. Is this normal for they all to be blooming and starting to set fruit?
Carrie early
Southern Blush mid
Kent late
