Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lucuma Seedling Flowering
« on: August 09, 2019, 04:11:57 PM »
My lucuma that I started from seed in 2014 is flowering for the first time. Does anyone else here have any experience with seedling lucumas? How was your fruit-set the first year flowering? Did any hold?

Mine are flowering for the first time...

Those of you growing it, does yours tend to flower in clusters?

I was surprised to see this tendency on both plants...

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant ID ... Legume of Some Sort?
« on: June 03, 2018, 06:35:54 PM »
Last year I bought a Sugar Cane Jujube tree in a five gallon container at the CRFG booth at the Green Scene and this year I finally got around to planting it out. This started coming up near the trunk and initially I thought it was a sucker from the rootstock. Upon closer inspection it looks decidedly leguminous.
The leaves at this point remind me of a peanut. Iím thinking whoever grew it might have thrown in other seed that only now has germinated.

Any guesses?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Jujube Pollination Question
« on: May 20, 2017, 03:54:30 PM »
Will Indian jujube (ziziphus mauritiana) pollinate Chinese jujube (ziziphus jujuba) and vice versa?

I've been attempting to hand pollinate an indian jujube seedling with pollen from three different chinese cultivars with no takes as of yet. It may be that the seedling Indian jujube is still too young or that the pollen is incompatible. I would appreciate opinions on the subject.
