Tropical Fruit Discussion / Myrciaria cauliflora with problems
« on: October 25, 2014, 06:35:00 AM »
hi,
this wonderful fruits plant is in a bad situation ... all the summer held leaves in this state .... making new leaves and quickly burning the ends why ??
People is telling me that is necessary for this plant an acid soil .... according to you is only this the problem ?
however in the hole at the moment of the planting I put manure that's acid
or the problem is the continue exposure at the sun ?

If the problem is the acid soil requested ... or hate red earth I don't know in which way I could solve it
I could put in a zone almost shade ....but the soil is ever red but I could mix manure, acidic peat and humus ... i don't know before e put all in a big hole
or put in a pot directly without planting in the ground

thanks

Citrus General Discussion / Pomelo and Lemon Meyer
« on: April 23, 2014, 08:24:01 AM »
Hi everyone,
two weeks ago here in Sicily I bought these two citrus.... pomelo and lemon meyer

Someone could help me with the identification ?

Is it really a lemon meyer ?   I was searching this citrus and this nursery sold me this plant talking me that needs to stay far from other plant of citrus, because could pass them disease, but is it possible ?

And this is pomelo anyone know the variety ?  For pollination there's need to have two plants of pomelo ?
I ate the fruit after 20 days of gathering but it was very dry, so should be eaten fresh to hear a little bit of juice?

This is the flowering of pomelo, many flowers .... I'd need to remove some flowers for growing better the fruits... or the plant make all alone ?

thanks

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Information on what tropical fruits required
« on: January 08, 2014, 10:13:33 AM »
Hello,
So these are my plants
avocado, mango (tommy atkins), annona (cherimolia), eugenia (brasiliensis), casimiroa edulis, dyosporis dygina (black zapote), feijoa, macadamia, myrciaria cauliflora

now I have to read if these varieties need to have another cultivar for the pollination or are self fertile like avocado .... also if the avocado is self fertile with another cultivar his production could change ?
However I need to know something around the position respect north or south, all these varieties can stay exposed to the sun without problems ? or someone required shadow

I must recover in the ground front of my garden an old building.... but which is the faster plant to grow in an erect way ? the avocado?
anyone suffers exposed to the sea?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / one or more cultivars for pollination
« on: January 04, 2014, 11:46:58 AM »
hello,
I have only one of these varieties

avocado, mango (tommy atkins), annona (cherimolia), eugenia (brasiliensis), casimiroa edulis, dyosporis dygina (black zapote), feijoa, macadamia, myrciaria cauliflora

my question is there may be problems in order to fruiting having only one cultivar of these ?
I know that this avocado is self fertil hence don't have any problem but for others as it does pollination ?
thanks
