I got some Jujube fruit an hr ago at FoodTown in Davie, FL. It's the green variety. I'm told its not as tasty as the red one but since I have a couple years to wait for my red tree to fruit, its close enough to hold me till then.

I don't know how often this is available in South Florida.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / HAVE TO TRADE: Egg Fruit (Pouteria campechiana), Soursop Seeds

Had this egg fruit for the first time today. Quite good. I understand it is a tropical that well adapted to zone 9 and 10 growth regions. This fruit gave up 5 large, "thumb-to-the-knuckle" sized seeds.

In addition, I have to trade:

Soursop seeds
Ackee seedlings 6-8"
Jackfruit Seedlings 12"
Jamaican ginger
Scotch Bonnet pepper plants 6-8"

Prefer rooted scions over seeds but will take most rare stuff.

Anyone have an idea what this plant/fruit tree is:

Bears a little black berry in bunches. Found growing in neighbor's yard after he bought the house. Birds ate it so I gave it a try. Pretty good!

I have a few extra seedlings of Jamaican Soft Ackee to trade 8-10". Typically, the cooked Ackee fruit has a firm texture. This Soft Ackee is a distinct variety of the Blighia sapida that when the fruit is cooked it is soft in eating texture. Below are the plants I want. However, I will take other things not listed that are tropical...except Durian!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian: Smells Putrid...Tastes Awful!

I am currently on vacation in St Petersburg florida where I happened upon a vietnamese grocer who had frozen durian for sale.. after all the durian talk I read in this group, I forked over the $9 odd for a small fruit. I was warned by the shop cleark that "it smels bad but tastes good".

After thawing I cut it open and it seems to work like a jackfruit. It did smellbad but it tasted god-awful!!
Has anyone had this experience with frozen Durian but loved fresh?

I need to be clear, this was a whole durian fruit.

Why did my air layer fail?

I setup 5 air layers on a neighbor's Sour sop tree and 3 of the five began to die 3 weeks later while still on the tree. I separated 1/2 - 1" of the phloem tissue from the xylem the branches ranged from 1/4" to 3/4" in diameter. I have air-layered several times before on different species. However, this is the first time I attempted it on Annona muricata.
