Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for a few cherimoya scions.
« on: February 02, 2015, 10:09:29 AM »
Not too concerned with what variety. I'm just planning to try a few in the ground to see if they can survive unprotected. I have a honey heart in the greenhouse. It grows huge and looks really healthy but I think it stays too warm in the greenhouse to induce dormancy. It just keeps growing straight through winter and doesn't flower.

Just let me know a cost and I can paypal it over. Just looking for maybe 3 sticks from 2 different types.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My New Durian death box.
« on: January 10, 2015, 05:51:00 PM »
Built this finally for my durian. I managed to turn a supposedly 6 hr job into about 18 but it's finally basically done. I figure I'll probably still kill the durian but at least this gives me a shot. I have the vents set to close at 70 degrees. The soil back there has great drainage so I'm hoping to avoid phytophthora. I might try to grow a couple pulasan in there too.

Trying to add a variety to my makok sapodilla. Please pm a price. Wouldn't mind grabbing some Silas woods as well.

Any ideas? It's still really warm and pretty humid here so I can't imagine it is a climate issue. This is a grafted tree from PR. After shipping it dropped all of its leaves and died back quite a bit but sent out a new vigorous shoot and seems to be doing well. Just not sure what is going on with the leaf edges.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / When can I start feeling optimistic?
« on: September 06, 2014, 11:58:35 AM »
This is the best looking of the durian grafts on the plants from Puerto Rico. All three grafts still look good but the other two only have buds just starting to swell at this point. It's only been a little over two weeks since grafting so I'm still not sure if there is an actual connection yet.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / My mist tent to recover bare root plants
« on: August 30, 2014, 05:15:47 PM »
Have a bunch of new stuff from Puerto Rico. The only things that were bare rooted were two quenepa's. They seemed to not handle that well. Dropped every leaf. I'm thinking they will recover fine eventually though.
The grafted rambutan was not bare rooted but for some reason all of the leaves turned crunchy in transit and have since dropped. A little more concerned about this one since I don't know why it handled the shipping so poorly. It does have a new shoot popping out just above the graft though.
Surprisingly the durians came through the trip looking perfect. Just have them in the tent to hopefully give the grafts a better chance of taking. One graft is actually pushing leaves already but i am assuming this is just from stored energy in the scion since it has only been a little over a week since the graft was done.

I have a little $5 ultrasonic fogger that turns on for 30 mins every 2 hrs. Seems to keep the humidity really high. I'm hoping this works better than just bagging everything.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Are these Brewster?
« on: June 28, 2014, 08:01:22 PM »
Picked these up at the local produce shop today. Pretty good but they have a massive seed. Maybe one out of 10 has a chicken tongue seed.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Any idea what's going on with this avocado?
« on: January 12, 2014, 12:22:52 PM »
I planted this at my parents house last spring. Seemed to do fine for most of the summer but recently this one and another in their yard started looking like this.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Green Caimito Flowering
« on: November 17, 2013, 02:03:52 PM »
I was moving a bunch of stuff into bigger pots today and not paying attention. After had just finished pretty much bare rooting my green caimito I actually looked at the tree and noticed flowers. No chance they will hold after the root pruning and bare rooting. Nice to see flowers though. Maybe next season I'll have a chance to try one. Wish I would have been paying closer attention before repotting.

This is my lalijiwo. Hoping to get to try it this year. I think the fruit is getting past the point of dropping as long as I actually remember to keep the tree watered.

I killed my large jacks down to below the grafts this winter so I want to buy a few scions to graft to the new shoots. Looking for a couple Bangkok lemon sticks, Maybe a couple Borneo red, and one good tasting soft fleshed type. Thanks for any help.

41
Grafted lemon drop from Puerto Rico. The tree itself has done nothing since I got it last August but I am hoping to get a couple fruit from it. Just wish my grafted achachairu would do the same.

43
I have a royal lee that is doing well but my Minnie royal came in dead from the nursery when I bought it and I have not had any luck getting a healthy replacement. Just looking for a few sticks to graft onto my royal lee.

44
I managed to kill mine so I need a replacement. Looking for either a 1 gal tree that would be easy to ship or a few pieces of budwood.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / New Z-2 Abiu
« on: February 22, 2013, 07:24:44 PM »
Just got this in today from Frankie's. Pretty decent plant. Looks to have made the trip well. The graft is well healed. I think it may actually have flower buds forming.

46
I just contacted Frankies and found out that they now have grafted Z-2 Abiu available. I have been searching for one for a while so I am going to pick one up. If anyone else in FL is interested on getting in on an order let me know. If we can get a decent sized order together the shipping, bare root and box fees are not too bad.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grafted Kwai Muk Flowering
« on: February 08, 2013, 09:55:12 PM »
Picked this up in Puerto Rico last summer. The tree itself han't done much since I got it but today I notice it is blooming. Hopefully by next season it will be big enough to hold some fruit.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone know what this Avocado is missing?
« on: November 17, 2012, 09:43:52 PM »
This is a recently grafted Kahaluu on Russell rootstock. Graft has been growing great, but the leaves look horrible. Any ideas?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Anyone tried Christmas Loquat?
« on: November 03, 2012, 09:50:45 PM »
Trying to fill out a box on my persimmon order from just fruit and exotics and I was thinking about a Christmas loquat. I have tried a bunch of different seedlings. Some I thought were pretty good with large fruit. Just wondering if the Christmas variety is good enough to plant when I already have access to a bunch of good seedling fruit?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Need some opinions on Persimmon varieties
« on: November 02, 2012, 12:26:25 PM »
Looking to pick up 2 or 3 persimmon trees. I wanted to get at least one astringent and one non astringent type. I am probably going to get them from Just Fruits and Exotics so my choices are limited to what they sell. I get a decent amount of chill up here so I think I should have a lot more choices than you guys have further south. Mainly concerned with flavor over production.

Here is Just fruit and Exotics list
